Hello everybody I’m new to the Porsche Taycan World after picking my 2026 taycan black edition up last week. Just wondered if Keyless entry is just not an option. I just presumed it was a standard option or where can i find where to switch it on or if it is an upgrade, how to buy it any help out there?

There is no phone key option if that's what you meant. But you can open the car without pressing the key fob. From the manual: https://manual.porsche.com/#/wpi/Y1..._US/topic/id/c61441de8d2c19c08d24c0b3106fac92

Comfort Access

Vehicles with Comfort Access can be unlocked and locked without actuating the vehicle key. For this purpose, the vehicle key must be carried by the driver.

Activating and deactivating Comfort Access
  1. Porsche Taycan Keyless Entry {filename}
    Settings > Vehicle > Vehicle locking systems > Unlocking the vehicle without using the vehicle key
Comfort Access functions can be configured in the vehicle settings.

Deactivating and activating Comfort Access with vehicle key
To prevent third parties from unlocking and starting the vehicle, Comfort Access can be temporarily deactivated using the vehicle key.
  1. Press and hold the
    Porsche Taycan Keyless Entry {filename}
    and
    Porsche Taycan Keyless Entry {filename}
    buttons simultaneously until the indicator light on the vehicle key lights up continuously.
To reactivate Comfort Access features:
  1. Press a button on the vehicle key.

It is an option as per all Porsches and is called Comfort Entry / Porsche Entry.

If not optioned then unlikely to be retro fitted as there is additional hardware added to the boot / tailgate - close / close and lock and a sensor for foot gesture operation. Can't be retro fitted.

It saves you a big headache!
My only trouble with Jen one was the keyless entry. Never works as it should and drains th car key battery in weeks…
So much better now without it… old but gold buttons to open and close the car… when it is required and back in control.

Nonsense. I've got it. Taycan is 3 years old as are the batteries in my key.

Good for you!
Even at the dealer when you spec the keyless entry… they suggest to avoid it…
Had my batteries replaced every 2 weeks… porsche was sending home free batteries for replacement😂.
What was more frustrating was the key randomly would not connect to the car. It was reprogrammed several times when them both were replaced… all lasted a few weeks… and back again.
They have never got it right with the Taycan.
5 months in Jen 1.2 and the battery still the original in both keys… 😜

Never had that issue on my Taycans or 911 and the keyfob battery drain is usually due to keeping the key when not in use too close to the car. Min 2 metres recommended and ideally in a Faraday pouch.

Standard option in Cayenne and 911 (probs Panamera too) so I think your dealer / sales rep is talking out of their backside.

Car key is 12 mt distance and in a faraday box Porsche kindly bought for Me. No luck with that either. It was just painful… they couldn’t find solution…the only answer was “ it’s a well known issue” so far there is no solution… we have been advised by Porsche to replace batteries free of charge…” I handed back the car in August, maybe now they have a solution…

They should have replaced the control unit in the car given reprogramming the key didn't help.

Comfort opening is steadily becoming standard across the model range so your advice from the dealership is at best questionable. Search the forum and you'll struggle to find mention of this issue. Electric charge ports are another story (ironically these have now become standard).

It's standard in the US on Taycans, and I have it on all of my cars. My understanding is it's an option in europe for security reasons, not necessarily the battery/reliability.

Sounds like your key was broken then. Wild to assume that everyone has this problem - nobody except you does here.

I didn't change the key batteries even once in the year I owned the last car.

Nothing to do with security either - standard on other Porsche models 911 for example - price sensitivity is possibly a reason but suspect by 2027 it will be standard on all Taycans.

Just interesting because It's the same with BMWs and Audis I follow. Common sentiment is there's more concern with cars being stolen that way. Or at least, most of the people that I see saying they don't want the option will say that's the reason.

Yes, they could be stolen using repeaters.
People would leave keys by the house door, one bad guy would be in the car with one retransmitter and another guy would be by the door with the other retransmitter.
Since the keys relied purely on the weakness of the signal to not work at a far distance, these signal boosters allowed you to start the car like that.

It's fixed in the new cars though.
The solution was to have accelerometers inside the keys and when the key is stationary for an X amount of time it just turns itself off until it's moved again. Rendering this attack completely useless.

Now, in theory someone could still steal your car while you're out and about or something, but that's a lot harder - arguably it's easier for the criminal to just bash your face in (or threaten to) and take your key rather than do this whole high tech thing. So I don't think that cars with these protection measures in place are at any higher risk of getting stolen compared to those without keyless entry.
