I hadn't heard of VinFast until this video. I wonder if it's actually going to help them because going viral is better than unknown.

I can’t believe someone actually bought one.

It may go down as the worst built car in recent history.
Does the Yugo count as recent history?

Either way, unlike the Yugo, probably in only several years VinFast will be producing cars that are nearly as good as a Taycan yet half the price.
Laugh if you will, while you can, but remember how we laughed so much at anyone who bought a Hyundai when they first arrived here?

I remember people saying Hyundai wouldn’t be around long enough to honor the 10-yr warranty, which sounded crazy at the time.
I’ve never had a Hyundai, but I guess they are reliable?

They were so bad at first that anyone who bought them had to be either too ignorant or too broke to buy a used Japanese car instead.
But now, Hyundai and corporate twin Kia make excellent cars (although Kia dealerships still specialize in preying on the ignorant and/or broke).
And some Genesis models are right up with the German marques.

I suspect the Vietnamese will be even faster to catch up -- so ironic that they suffered so much to liberate South Vietnam from colonial capitalist oppression (or whatever the motivating factor was), only to end up being just as uber capitalist as ... Communist China!

My Dad friend has a Vinfast. He likes it. He got it because they offered it for <$200 a month lease.

They would have to offer to *pay* me more than $200/month to drive that!
He said they fix most of the early electronic gremlins. He was happy with the car.

Got to remember that most people can't afford a Taycan or BMW/Audi. I don't think you can even get into any new car for <$200 a month with no money down.

Vinfast still has a long way to go to be as good as Hyundai USED to be!

Hyundais for sure came a long way. But they still aren’t seen as a top tier sports nor luxury brand.

You’re right that in the 90s, no chance I would buy one nor recommend one to anyone. These days? Hyundai, Kia and Genesis have some nice vehicles. Quality almost as good as Honda and Toyota, but a few grand cheaper.

Neither are competing with Porsche. Just an entirely different product for a different customer.

For good reason. The owner is taking a huge risk that the brand will pull out of the US entirely.

Then it’s like having a Fisker. I just looked, you can buy a loaded low mileage Fisker Ocean for $15k.

Even given how much everyone here complains about base Macan loaners?
And looks really close here:
https://www.caranddriver.com/rankings/best-suvs/luxury/compact
For a Macan and GV70 with the same pricing, which would be the better vehicle overall?
(I don't profess to know the answer, especially since I've never even been in a GV70, but I was favorably impressed by the marque from a short G70 test drive, except for the nearly unusable rear seat.)
