If it helps here is how it is listed in my options.

Any feature purchased outright, whether from new or via FoD is permanently linked to the car. The only exception is a monthly subscription FoD, which remains account based.

So what does Comfort Access actually give me?
  • I can walk up to the car with the key in my pocket and it unlocks automatically, with the door handles popping out. The steering wheel and seat move into position.
  • I can drive off without pressing the power button.
  • I can open the boot with a kick gesture.
  • The boot has an option to close and lock in one action.
  • The frunk opens with a gesture (although I’m not sure if this is part of Comfort Access).

I had exactly the same functionality as you describe for a month or so after oirchasing my vehicle until I activated my new Porsche account. From your explanation I would have thought that the previous owner had Comfort Access as a subscription, however there is no subscription service on offer to me in FOD, just the option to buy it once at £1200 ?

Frunk hand gesture is part of Comfort Access.

Seat and steering wheel positioning only features if you have the optional 14 or 18 way seats (or Driver Memory on the standard 8 way seats). Door mirror positions, HVAC and PCM settings are also stored plus you get the tilting passenger mirror when selecting reverse.

The FOD implementation of this doesn't have the additional lock and close trunk button either.

As of September 2024 subscptions were dropped for Comfort Access, PDLS+, Power Steering Plus, InnoDrive, Active Lane Keep and Porsche Intelligent Range Manager.

Lifetime purchase could be made only from that point. Existing subscriptions would remain until change of owner.

A £1200 fee for something that when factory fitted and had more functionality for half the price is simply outrageous. If resale is a consideration then it's probably worth £100.

This is pretty much exactly what what the guy from Porsche said to me on the phone yesterday.

My thinking is that when it was a subscription they weren’t making guaranteed money as people would likely pay for it only when needed. Like myself working away for a month at a time.

But it just seems crazy to me that I would have to pay it all over again for the next one. You would think that would be an insensitive to go to another one instead of a different model or brand even if you had paid that money.

Its a terrible model originally created by IBM when they launched the IBM360 many decades ago. Basically, all.computers had the bells and whistles but only activated for a fee. It made them a fortune. Now deemed quite wasteful if the features are never used.

Always cheaper to spec at build time if you can. On the positive side Porsche are now adding many more options as standard along with a bump in price.

One day I hope to be able to afford a new one with my own spec 🤞

Just get a bargain J1.2 (facelift) demo where these things are standard among many other benefits. I'd be cautious about putting my own dosh into another factory fresh Taycan.

I’ve got a couple of years with this one yet anyway before I even consider another. On that note what’s everyone’s thoughts on going up from the 4S. Worth the extra money for the power? Or do we all think the 4S is more than enough.

I’ve got comfort access, ie doors unlock upon approach and seat adjusts out and in, etc.

What I don’t know how to do, or it’s not working:
1) swipe hand to open frunk
2) kick foot to open trunk

anyone got any ideas, am I just doing it wrong?

GTS all day long. No need to go beyond. I've had both but the GTS is just perfect.

From the videos I’ve seen the frunk opens with a gesture just below the badge on the bumper. And the boot I guess is generic like other cars as long as the key is in your pocket. Maybe a setting as well because I see you can go in and choose to only have the drivers door open when you approach the car.
Hope that helps

Thanks. I haven’t seen a setting, but I’ve swiped my hood in ever way I can imagine and done the one foot dance at the back of the car - no joy

Check all of the comfort settings under locking in the PCM to ensure nothing is disabled.

Frunk hand swipe - see video in Owner's Manual - can be a faff.

Foot gesture - centre under bumper swing your leg in and out in a positive manner and then step back.

Key must be on your person.
