Hey all! Long time lurker but first post here. I'm a tech guy from the Netherlands who was never a "car person". Drove a Model 3 for a few years, thought that was perfectly fine. Then I bought a '23 Taycan RWD and honestly, it ruined me. I was looking for "a more luxurious Tesla", but fell in love with the Taycan's sportiness (and looks!). I even have a BMW R NineT that's barely getting any rides anymore, which feels crazy to me.

I won’t bore you with the details, but despite the wonderful folks at my Porsche dealership, they haven’t been able to properly fix the various electrical faults my car has yet. It worked fine for the first couple of years, but since november I've been having issue after issue, making the car undrivable. My trust in the car is just gone at this point, which is a real shame because when it works, I absolutely love this thing.

So now I'm looking at what's next. I’d really like to stay with Porsche. I don't need the Taycan's practicality anymore (we bought a Volvo after having our first baby last year) and I’m not even married to EVs either. I've been eyeing some 992.1s, which are pretty expensive here in NL but will probably hold their value a bit... differently than my Taycan. Had a Carrera 4S as a loaner last year and it was great, but I honestly don't know the rest of the lineup well enough.

My biggest fear is that I'll desperately miss the instant torque of the Taycan. For those of you with more experience with ICE Porsche's, what would you recommend? Or should I reconsider the J1.2?

Appreciate any thoughts.

There are several people here with your experience/feelings that migrated to a J1.2 and seem happy. We're starting to see some pretty good deals on 2025s now as well.

There's a whole thread on this topic though and might be worth reading. I'm not sure I could ever go back to an ICE vehicle; I'd driven Teslas for 10 years before moving to a Taycan 2 months ago. As I was looking to move to my next vehicle it really came down only to the Taycan and a Model Y or 3 performance... I just hate the look of the Model Y and I wasn't enamored with being in a Model 3 for another 6 to 8 years.

I really hate the way pretty much every other EV looks (pretty much every other car that we can get in the US) so it all came down to either a Taycan or Audi e-tron GT and I liked the Porsche better.

Right now there isn't any other alternative for me... I'm praying for an EV 911 or Boxster or some Chinese equivalent makes it's way to the US. Until that time I'll hold out hope that the J1.2 is a more stable platform (I would likely switch back to a Model 3 Performance if I lost faith however).

J1.2 here. Great car and quite a step up over the j1.1 loaner I had for a couple of weeks. Just a more together car, range much improved. Rides better. Doesn’t seem to have the continual software gripes.

not all Taycan's are bad - it's not a systemic problem - just some cookies out of the oven are bad - if you like the car just get a new cookie from the oven - the likely hood of two bad cookies is rare.

I jumped to a 992.2 to hopefully preserve my "investment".

Base model is probably all the 911 you need or perhaps stretch to a 992.2 S but the other models are rather pricey for not much more of a driving experience in day to day life. The 4's are heavier. Some folk pine for a manual so T or GT3. Heard mixed reports on the GTS.

I really (really) miss my Taycan GTS ST - it was sublime and torque on tap but...

We understand this happens in some cases, but can you expand on what specific issues you are having so we may be able to help guide you on the options to resolve them. However, if the issues have no chance to be resolved and you are looking for the next option, then we have many happy J1.2 owners. I do not believe there is anything better if you stay EV.

Actually, during the replacement of 5 battery modules, I received a J1.2 loaner which had to be towed as well because of a dozen (!) fault codes. I suspect this to be software related, but it doesn’t inspire confidence.

In november I saw the notorious red ring for this time. The dealership couldnt diagnose the underlying issue, because the logs were too noisy (?) and the errors cleared. After two more tows they decided a battery replacement was needed. They ended up replacing 5 modules which took 2 months. I received the car this monday, but the same red ring error reappeared yesterday and the car was towed again. They’ll let me know tomorrow if they know what happened, but the necessary back and forth before the car gets properly fixed is just unacceptable imo.

Besides this, the car has had it’s heater replaced, something with the onboard charger and the usual recalls. Feels like I won the lottery sometimes!

Thank you for sharing. Yes, these are well known problems, and I know my dealership has done many of these with full success by replacing heaters, 22kW onboard charger, and sending batteries out for module or full replacement, but it does take a long time.

My advice would be to push for a new battery replacement that would get you the latest J1.2 battery with so called J1.1 emulation mode, which basically means the car will see and treat it as J1.1 battery as far as capacity and other properties.

If they happen to reset the error and get back to you, I highly recommend getting the OBD reader with free CarScanner app and read out the battery health and cell health yourself and share with us for us to guide you further. Let me know if you want to proceed with this route.

Beautiful, congrats on your perfect choice as model, variant, color and equipment.
Although I have a 992.2 GT3 my best time was with a Base 911 as a daily. Sold (4yo/50k km) 95% on its original price ;) .

The value of my '22 Taycan GTS is ca. 40% of MSRP...
Next year I will definitely turn to 911 992.2. Will try to pick one from the lasts before November 2027 EURO7 hybrid only times.

Happy with my 992.2 GTS, faster than my Taycan 4s

Amazing combo! I'm afraid a new 992.2 is beyond what I'm willing to spend. I find the current 911 pricing incomprehensible. My first house was cheaper than a base Carrera!

I just heard back from the dealership. Basically they don't know how to proceed yet, so they'll be contacting Porsche HQ for next steps. Will keep you guys updated.

Good evening
My 2023Gts has been a good car. I ´m changing my Porsche every 1,5 to 3 years and I wanted a 718EV. I was thinking it would be available in 2026 but delayed again.

So I have ordered at the end of December a 911 Targa 4S wich has been delivered last Friday to my CPO.
I will have it next week.
I did not choose à GTS to avoid testing again a new Porsche technology. 480 HP will be enough for me.

Only one issue with my Taycan : Power Button changed. Too much recalls but such a fantastic car so for me it was a good choice.

I have told my CPO that as soon as 718 EV will be available he can order one for me.

The J1.2 could have been a good choice but for me the car is too big and we are only 2 and have 2 other cars.

EV are really the best cars to drive so I will be back as soon as Porsche has a sport smaller car available.

enjoy your next choice

Jings!! When did you change Winge? How are you finding the 992? Preserving "investment"?
