In the first few days after we bring a new vehicle home, we coat the wheels (including the inside barrel, back of spokes, and its entire outside-facing surfaces) with CarPro DLUX. It is designed for high heat applications. As a very high quality ceramic, it makes subsequent road and even brake dust removal a simple microfiber with any detailer easy-wipe-away. It is also good for application on plastics and rubber. Been using it for over ten years.

I re-do the outside facing brake and plastic surfaces typically every six months, though taking off and re-doing the entire wheel every two years.

I did not include the link for it would have been for Amazon U.S. with USD pricing, but know it is avaialble in England and many other places.

Carpro do good products. I once ceramic coated one of my cars years ago with Carpro. For wheels I use Gtechnic C5 ceramic wheel coating. Not the best but it’s easy to apply and relatively cheap. As you say, it does help with cleaning the wheels.

Fully agree that GTechnic’s products are also excellent, I use them also at times. For daily use I often use Adams and Griot’s Garage. As a very smart person (a detailer with a national reputation for excellence who won many detailing contests) said about 2010, once you get to a level “good” level of products, the quality of the ending finish is then mostly based on the quality of the applicator and their technique.”

I believe my wheels were coated with Carpro DQuartz Pro along with the rest of the car. On the video of my car being done the shop mentioned putting CQuartz on top of that but I'm not sure if they put that on the wheels as well.

I've had some rust water drip down from the rotors when I used a higher PH cleaner on the wheels and it washed right off. But this doesn't happen with my normal wash (Carpro Reset).

The rotors do turn color every wash, but way worse when using the high PH cleaner.

First-world problems, I know - especially given World events - but if I may crave your indulgence for a while, and coming back on-topic: GTS ride quality

If I am to make the April build slot I need to finalize my configuration by Monday - but I'm torn between a fully-specced 4S (PTZKG216) and a GTS (PTJZRXA8), both with:-

• Active Ride
• Rear-Axle Steering
• Torque Vectoring

The question is: what would I miss by going for a 4S over a GTS?

As I see it, the advantages of the GTS are:-

• Slightly-more power
• Firmer ride, even in "Normal" mode
• Potentially-sharper steering?
• (Unique "RaceTex" interior)
• GTS badging

The advantages of the 4S are:-

• Smoother ride in "Normal" mode
• Lower price

From the comments in this thread it would appear that a fully-specced 4S should have a similar steering feel to the GTS, but would give me a better ride quality (I can always switch to Sport or Sport Plus for more firmness). I don't really want the unique GTS interior - I prefer leather to the fake suede - and I do value a smooth ride… On the other hand, I'm also very fussy about steering feel, ride and handling. But I'd like to be able to choose between "race" and "cruise" styles as my mood suits

Here again are my two configurations:-

1. 4S: https://porsche-code.com/PTZKG216

2. GTS: https://porsche-code.com/PTJZRXA8

I would be grateful for any feedback/suggestions - thanks!

The 4S is very close to what I would do:
  • I like the illuminated stuff, so I would add that.
  • I don't much like the 18 way sports seats in my GTS... I would choose the 14 ways comfort seats if I had the option.
  • I think gray Spyders look great on blue which doesn't look like an option on the 4S.

GTS:
  • Why a different color? Due to the wheel color?
  • Love the gray Spyders
  • FWIW, I didn't think I'd like the race-tex steering wheel, but's it's grown on me.
  • All the 4S comments apply here too

Out of the 2 I'd choose the 4S.

You have created two excellent options. The question I would ask yourself is on a daily basis are you wanting more comfort or more precise edginess. We are getting a 2027 GTS pretty much along the same lines as yours, but for decades our preference has always been for vehicles, even our daily drivers, being focused driving passion. But there is no right or wrong choice, only YOUR choice.

I would second selecting the 14 way seat choice, that is unless you have spend considerable time getting into and out of 18 way seats and found their bigger seat bottom and back bolsters work well for you. Again your own preference is what would be best.

We have a Gentian Blue Metallic Mscan EV Turbo. It is a stunning color, so rich and full even when the sun it not on it, but powerfully explosive when it is.

Good luck. You have created two super options.

Many thanks for this!

- When you say "I like the illuminated stuff", are you referring to the "Porsche" logo at the back?
- What don't you like about the Sports seats please? (I like the way the side bolsters can be folded inwards to grip you firmly - but I'm quite small).
- I actually like a bit of chrome on my cars (yes, old fashioned) but this lower-cost "Black Edition" limits this.

I chose a lighter colour for the GTS as I thought this suited its sporty nature more (vs the more-refined, "luxury" theme of the 4S config).

Thanks again!

This is a tough one! Most of the time I'd like a bit of fun to spice up my morning commute - and sometimes enjoy taking the back roads home. But it's also nice to have the option of a more-relaxed driving experience when I'm tired and stressed and driving home with a stonking headache ;-)

…which is why I worry that the GTS might be a little too much "on the edge" - given that I found its ride a little too firm even in "Normal" mode.

What I wasn't able to ascertain was whether the 4S with RAS, PTV and PAR could provide the same "edge" as the GTS, albeit with a more comfortable "Normal" mode.

Call me a wimp, but I guess I'm after a GTS with an additional "Comfort" mode…

This is interesting feedback - thanks.

I'm quite small, so I really enjoyed the improved side bolsters (compared to the Comfort Seats). In fact, on my test drive I had the side bolsters moved all the way inwards: nice and grippy through the twisties, and probably increased the driving enjoyment. Totally accept that it might be harder for others to access the car though - but my wife would be the only other (very rare) driver, and she's about the same size as me.

My current car - a Tesla Model S - originally came with Recaro bucket seats that were fabulous for sporty driving (though not so good on comfort). When my car was upgraded to the full P100DL spec, those seats were replaced with Tesla's new seats - which are certainly more comfortable, but less grippy, and it's remarkable how much this degrades the driving fun. Great for motorways; less good for windy roads.

Yes, the light up logo in the back, the Porsche puddle lights and the light up door-sills. I love the logo more than I thought I would, I retrofitted the puddle lights (which is really easy) but I do not have the door-sills and I wish I did.

I think the sports seats are hard and hug too firmly. If you've not test driven a J1.2 with them already, you might want to. If you have, you are good to go.

FWIW, there are better dashcams on the market that can use the prewiring, but the configured one is certainly the easiest.

Since you have indicated that you lean toward comfort, the very last vehicle you would want is the combination of a GTS with 21’ wheels. 20” wheels give far more comfort.

With a non-GTS with your comfort preference, 21” should be good for you in normal mode.

The Spyders are worth any discomfort :)

P.S., Is it heresy to prefer a GTS with leather?

When I optioned the GTS interior, the configurator wouldn’t let me replace the RaceTex steering wheel with a leather one (without switching back to an all-leather interior).

My GTS is leather, though the steering wheel is race-Tex. I prefer the leather but it was a CPO so had what it had.
