At 18,500 miles and 6 months past factory warranty the A/C quit cooling. I purchased the extended warranty sold by the Houston Porsche dealership to last through the remainder of the battery warranty. Basically a 4 year extension. to 50k miles.
1) Dealer says diagnosis requires a $400 service that warranty does not cover.
2) Now dealer says expansion valve is bad and warranty specifically excludes this part.
Interesting because the only reason I Purchased the warranty was the dealer recommendation that it covered everything expect batteries.
3) Total repair is estimated at $3,000.
Any one else have this problem? Suggestions?

This makes no sense and defeats the purpose of the extended warranty that most of us are considering and recommending on this forum with a rep thinking from Houston selling it to us.

I was quoted around $8,500 by my dealer and I would be absolutely furious if that would not cover the situation that you have. I will run it now by my dealer to see what they say as they are selling the same product and let you know.

@kelliporsche is from San Antonio, not Houston, for clarification purposes.

Thank you for the correction. It would be really nice for @kelliporsche to review this case as well and let us all know if it would be covered or there is some kind of more expensive tier that is more inclusive of parts and repairs.

I don’t have specific experience with Porsche extended warranty but this has been my reason for hesitation every time. I don’t trust it to come through when I need it.

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re experiencing this issue. I understand how frustrating and concerning this situation must be. The AC valve does sound like a wearable item; however, I can't confirm or deny this due to limited information.

First and foremost, $8,500 is far too much for a Porsche VSP for 96 months, and I completely understand why this has raised concerns. When I present protection options, my goal is to be fully transparent. That’s why I always provide both the brochure and the full 14-page contract, which clearly outlines all coverage details and exclusions.

At this point, I strongly recommend reaching out to the selling dealer to review your situation with them directly. Additionally, I suggest asking them to connect with their Porsche representative to see if there may be any goodwill assistance or resolution available. Given the significant out-of-pocket expense you’re now facing, it’s worth escalating to explore any possible support.

You did not read/understand the service plan written contract.
It has a list of exclusions that is about 2 pages long.
It states that the written contract is the complete description for terms and conditions of the service plan and that no oral representations should be relied upon by the buyer.

Wow, this plan does not cover the HV battery in any way? Is there a plan that does?

Correct, Porsche EV owners should be aware that their vehicles come with two distinct warranties, each designed to provide comprehensive protection and added peace of mind.

The Porsche manufacturer’s warranty provides coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles from the original manufacturing date —whichever comes first.

In addition, the battery is covered for 8 years from the original manufacturing date, or up to 100,000 miles, offering extended protection on one of the vehicle’s most important components.

When selling the Porsche VSP, I always inform customers interested in exceeding 96 months. For those who do, I offer the fidelity coverage, which includes battery coverage and extends their plan, but it can be more expensive.

This is very helpful @kelliporsche and my quote from my dealer rip off department was quoted to put in context that your quote was great.

Now, reading the brochure, it says Climate Control is covered and then Contract does not say anything about cooling system valve except some hoses. I think the list of exclusions may be open to broad interpretation so I would fight for full coverage of the repair.

Belts and hoses are typically classified as wearable items, and while this specific situation may not be clearly outlined, most cases involving rubber components do fall under normal wear and tear.

That said, I always want to advocate for our customers. You’re absolutely right—it’s worth pursuing to see if we can secure some goodwill or assistance on his behalf with the person who sold him the contract.

Wow this sounds really bad for even something like the 911. Says it all about the quality of Porsches. None of my non—Porsche ever have valve or hoses issues.

Do you happen to have the 2 page exclusion list to share here for context?

Extended warranties always have exclusions, no matter what the people buying them believe. It's an insurance product, on which the underwriting company must make profit, so they will always exclude things which break often, or have to increase premiums. Anyone who thinks they outsmarted the insurance company by buying their warranty is kidding themselves - either their actuaries know what they are doing, or they go bankrupt and coverage disappears anyways. Whenever an insurance product sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Personally I believe in buying catastrophic insurance only, i.e. things which would significantly affect my finances if I had to pay for them out of pocket. For anything I can afford, I am self insured, therefore pocket the profit (tax free too) the insurance company would normally get.
