I'm noticing a sudden drop in range on my 2020 4S. It has around 55K miles, bought at 50K miles, in summer 2025.

Attached is a graph of implied 100% range vs ambient outside temperature. The implied 100% range is simple math - displayed range/Charge % at that moment.
The three lines are
- Summer 2025 (blue)
- Fall 2025 - after a battery recalibration (in green)
- Now, Spring 2026 (in orange)

As you can see, I'm experiencing meaningful range drop - about 64 miles (47 mile from pre calibration).

I am driving more highway miles now, but I thought the Taycan did well at highway speeds and thought I'd observe a range increase from my usual short city drives.

In Sep 2025, I ran the TCan Pro app and everything looked fine (will attach in subsequent post). I'm going to run it again now as soon as battery charge drops.

I did a battery recalibration in Nov 2025, and noticed
- Battery SoH go from 85.94% before recalibration to 89.54% after
- range increase by about 17 miles at the time.

Anyone with similar range drops? From what I read, am I headed towards the inevitable red circle / battery issues?

I'm headed to the dealer this weekend (for something else), so I'm going to have them look at it. Any words of wisdom to get them looking at it in the right way?

Thanks!

Looks like you have the OBD and able to measure SoH. You need to get us your cell graphs to see if any cells show drop on voltage and SoC vs. the rest. CarScanner app has these graphs under Dashboard views and also a screen that shows Battery Energy.

I measure mine every 1k miles to look for any sudden changes for the exact reason to detect any cells going bad, where you only need 1 to get the Red Circle of Death.

Thank you @SergeyIndy . I'm going to run the CarScanner and tCanPro scans and will report back what I see.

CT14 was mentioning that sudden range drops could indicate a iminent battery failure.

That being said, for spring time, 202 miles is completely normal for a j1.1 taycan - doesn't really seem to be a signifiant range drop. It could be colder than usual, it could be more humid, your driving patterns might have changed, the tires might be different. Lots of reasons.

I myself am getting 200ish miles in spring, maybe 220 on warmer days; and in summer i hardly ever see above 240miles of range unless i slow down my driving or drive through the alps.

Driving in regions where you go downhill, even slightly, has a 20-40miles of range impact from my experience, here in switzerland - regenerative breaking makes quite the difference in extra range in such scenarios.

Thank you for the response. I had read that too (sudden range drop = impending failure) and just wanted to see if others had lived through it...

202 miles estimated at 74 degrees F seems very low... from what I've been reading for the past year. That translates to only about 180 miles real range driven (in my experience, driven < estimated), and if there's a buffer included for charging adventures, only about 145-150 miles of real driven range before charging. (This is at 74F...). That would be bad for any trips.
More importantly, it feels like much less than I used to get a few months ago.

Lets get the CarScanner screens. They will show if something is going bad. Range drop even sudden would not scare me unless the CarScanner app data shows concerns as it is real data and not an estimate or calculated value.

I guess I accidentally put this thread under classifieds. Apologies. Can an admin move this into the right section? @Administrator

The Taycan does worse in highway than city driving as mentioned by @262X40 in his latest video, and I’ve proven this correct. City driving I can do 240+ but as soon as I hit the highway and constantly drive 80+ mph, my range drops by 10%.

Also be aware that if you do a bit of highway at 80-90 ml/hour your advertise range is going g to drop. It will come back up after some regular day to day without highway.

" I thought the Taycan did well at highway speeds and thought I'd observe a range increase from my usual short city drives "

Taycan does very well at highway speeds compared to other EV, but range at highway speeds is lower than city drives.

I get a drop of 10-20% of range when doing highway with my taycan
My daughter has a drop of 30-50% with her EV at highway speeds.

I’ve noticed this as well.

Ditto my experience. Max range with single digits left driving my 2021 Turbo at highway speeds (75-80 mph) is 200 miles and lower if temps are cold.

I lost 60 miles of range in one week. I kept track of the range after each charging session so I could show the dealer the degradation. It turned out to be some bad cells in the HV battery. I got a remanufactured HV battery. Good luck.

Since I’ve had my 2021 Taycan RWD I rarely drive it above 70mph on the highway for more than 30 or 40 miles a day. Mostly around town driving I begin to see an increase in range over a period of 4-6 months after my last long trip.
What I noticed on my last trip to Las Vegas from Orange County was that at 100% charge it estimated I had 225 miles but driving at 80mph for almost 3 hours my range was closer to 160 miles.
After spending the weekend in Las Vegas and driving back home to OC again at 80mph on average my range when I charged to 100% was only 202 miles. I lost 10% of my range over the weekend and less than 600 miles driven.
Obviously the range drops considerably above 65-70mph which is my typical max speed on average most of the year.
Almost 2 months after my trip to LAs Vegas my range increases little by little as the vehicle recalibrates the range to my around town driving habits rather than the 80mph for 4 hours one day and another 80mph for 4 hours a few days later with less than 50 miles driven in between.
I expect my range will be back up to 225 miles after another few months of driving around town at lower speeds without any real hard acceleration.
Remember, unlike ICE vehicles, when you’re stopped at a light the EV uses next to no power except for HVAC. An ICE vehicle still has the engine idling which burns gas. Some ICE vehicles shut off the engine and restart when you step on the gas (which is annoying). EVs don’t use anywhere near as much energy in stop & go driving compared to ICE vehicles.

Just tagging myself on this feed. Also have 2020 4S. When I bought it in December 2024 it gave 200 miles summer '25 220 mile. Then in December '25 started to shown 160 - 170miles.

Paid for a battery conditioning check from Porsche which showed 90% capacity then 1 month later started to get frequent 'Electrical Fault' errors. Chun advised correctly being a defective cell which has just today been repaired.

Lets see if the range improves!
