After many years of eager anticipation -- or is that frustrating delay? -- the Polestar 5, a potential Taycan competitor, has finally been fully revealed, with the reviews released on Monday this week.

Here are the major U.S. text sources:

Car and Driver doesn't seem to have bothered -- perhaps b/c it won't be coming to the U.S., since it's made in China.

Even if it were coming to the U.S., Polestar seems to be crippling the brand's potential growth by revoking its previous arrangement with service at Volvo dealers:

And the Polestar dealership coverage makes Porsche look like a mainstream marque:

Yes, same as with the Polestar 4 (the more "coupe"-like version of the Polestar 3), which you can actually take for a test drive in the U.S. (if you live anywhere near a Polestar dealer).

I didn't expect it to cost so much (base equivalent to $140K??). The exterior is OK, the interior is depressingly Tesla. The performance seems...fine? What are the highlights that make this car exciting and worth the price?

I'm confused that someone could buy a lower-end Taycan model, get PAR with it, and have a much nicer looking car, better performance (handling at least - could get it tuned for better acceleration), and a more prestigious badge - all for a lower price than this car.

I’m excited. Even if it’s not objectively better than the Taycan, having the Polestar 5 and Neue Klasse BMW are all good signs of more choice in the EV space. Plus, purely emotional subjective comment, but the Polestar 5 looks pretty good. Ya it’s shallow, but if it weren’t for looks, why else would anyone pay $100k more than a Kia EV6 or any other mass market EV which already has great performance.

I'm gonna go test drive that thing, I love the design, it's so damn pretty.
I expect it to drive nothing like a Taycan with PAR, but it just looks so cool. Just need to convince the mrs somehow that she should daily that thing :p

My mother in law’s Lexus has a review mirror that can switch between a mirror and a camera screen.

The pro is that the camera screen has a much wider angle of view.

But I honestly kind of hate it. Because of the wider angle, cars to the side of you seem to be in the wrong place.

Plus it’s odd on your eyes because your have to go from focusing on things far away to focusing on the screen a few inches away when you’re used to focusing far away with a mirror.

We have Clearsight in our Defender and I love it, wouldn’t have another one without it.

I hate it! It is not thoroughly developed and dangerous at times. You cannot see the car behind you if it is a lowered car or if too close to the rear spare wheel, It is also useless if you have a trailer attached. The angle on the motorway is too wide and not natural.
The only positive side is if the boot is filled to the top, at least gives you an idea of what is happening behind you. This said, mine also had to be replaced during warranty wasting me time twice for issues.

I’ve just priced up a Polestar 5 with the options to try to match a Black Edition and it’s the same price as a new Taycan 4S Black Ed.
