I was planning to trade in my 2025 Taycan CT.
One year and three months old.
Cost €150,000.
I am extremely happy with it. No issues whatsoever.
Was planning to upgrade to the current model / looks like I will have to buy another brand sports car.
Any suggestions! I was going to add 4 wheel steering/ sports seats and a few more extras.
Trade in value after a little over a year and 15,000 kms €80,000.
That’s some depreciation. And I believe that EV ‘s and increasing in value due to the increasing cost of fuel 🤷‍♂️.
And that’s with a Porsche main dealer , where I purchased it.
Very disappointing.
Almost 50% depreciation in little over a year.
Thanks in advance 🤔

Sadly this is normal.and largely directed at the Taycan for no reason other than perception (many issues historically which were globally publicised and battery degradation concerns (unfounded)).

Taycan is front loaded for depreciation and so you essentially get hit with 3 years worth in year one.

Hybrids fair better (UK at least) and EVs typically don't 2nd hand. Too many cheap Chinese EVs in the market where often it is cheaper to purchase new for the same car than 2nd hand due to lease rates and lower finance costs.

Haggle hard for another Taycan - GTS with RAS (Rear Axle Steering) which comes with PTV+ as it should be a buyers market for 2nd hand.

Taycan (new) is over priced which really doesn't help either.

In my car career (Canada/US), I always found cars depreciate 2 years as soon as you take possession of a new car. More expensive cars ($100K+) depreciate even more when you drive it off the lot (I suppose people who can afford such expensive cars can afford new, so used market for those cars must start at a significant discount off MSRP to draw them in).

Now Taycan is in yet another category - very customizable car, will hundreds of thousands options combinations (infinite if you include PTS+). This means that someone who can afford a new Taycan, cannot find the exact option combination in a used market , therefore requiring further discount to accept a car close to what they want instead of exactly what they want.

I have been in that last category, though I never even found a Taycan close to what I wanted (my minimum requirement was Turbo CT with premium and performance packages, 150KW DC booster, 22kW OBC, Night Vision) I gotta tell you if I found one, but it had extra options, I would value those options at $0 (since I didn't care for them). Heck, there were options I specifically didn't want (like automatic charge port) which in a used Taycan would have had negative value (I would expect a discount for living with a feature I didn't want). Imagine finding the car that has all the options you want but in the most ugly PTS+ color combination you can imagine - how much discount would it take for you to buy it (despite the fact that PTS+ costs a lot)?

That depreciation is steeper than normal. That said, you should hang onto your CT. It is now a classic, rare machine that will fetch a premium at some point 🙂
More likely a "classic" in the same league with the De Lorean...ugh

Avoid massive depreciation by buying used in the first place. What did you realistically expect to happen to value in a year and a half?

I feel bad for the people who paid MSRP for Taycans. I was able to get mine for 30-ish percent off of MSRP after it sat on a dealers lot for 12+ months.

Since your car is already a J1.2, what were you looking to get out of a 2027 that would be different than your current vehicle? I say that because if you want different trim or color, then a “used” 2026 might be the way to go. But if you want to updates with the 2027 model (which I personally don’t see as a big deal) then brand new off a lot if probably your only option.

If you don't have any issues with your car, I wouldn't want to roll the dice on a new one. The Lemon rate on taycans are relatively high.

It feels like to me you have bought the wrong car, what model is it? I have a 4S ST which I bought from new over 3 years ago, I don’t have sport seats or rear steering, I’m sure they would be nice to have but if I had them I guess I would barely notice them. I am wondering if you have the wrong colour or wheels because I can’t see a good reason to change the car for unnecessary extras which will effectively cost you $80,000 to change. The car is fantastic and a new one won’t feel any different..

Ho much you paid for it?
Why would you sell it?
I have paid MSRP for my Turbo going into it with a mindset of long term hold and not worry about depreciation.
