That shift is anything but smooth though. At least in my 22 4S.
It’s not. They did it on purpose though.
they could have made it so you don’t feel or hear it , however, this way there is the experience of shifting 😁

PS. I love how they designed it. The double kick is a party every time again!

I’m waiting for one these companies to patent fake exhaust smoke out the back, perhaps colored and gasoline scented steam, then as a premium option, some gasoline smell injected into the cabin for better engagement. Porsche could make additional revenue selling refill cartridges for the exhaust and gasoline scent! They could even have exclusive jet fuel scent for Turbo trims and above.

i take it you guys complaining about this are all in agreement that Ferrari is wasting money trying to make exhausts sound better for their v12s manuals, since sound is useless, correct?

It’s hardly productive to make such big exaggerations, like mine, or like some of you are posting.

Now to go back on topic…

The vibrations apparently come from the speakers alone, no vibration motors in the seats - like Mercedes. So I wouldn’t expect much in terms of vibrations, but apparently it’s still noticeable enough

How many people will opt for the Burmester along with this silly silly feature?? Don't think you'll want to use both at the same time...;)
Brumester already offers an option that dynamically adjusts the EQ and sound volume in accordance with the sport sound. Works well in my experience.
Options to open and close valves on exhausts have been sold with brumester for a while now, and I think people manage to find use cases for both.

Or how about being charged a lot for a 'full service' when all they do is change the brake fluid and poke round it with a stick for 5 minutes.
Oh wait a minute....

If that improved sound on a v12 ends up cutting the power/performance of the car, then yes, it would be ridiculous. Adding features that take away performance from a performance car seems counterproductive. But I get it that there is a segment of consumers who will eat it up, the same people who would mess with their engine timing in order to get it to backfire, or cut off their exhaust - to make it make a lot of noise at the cost of power.

Koeningsegg takes it even a step further with the 20th anniversary CC850: ;)

The Engage Shift System (ESS)
Perhaps the most notable feature of the CC850 is its revolutionary gearbox. The Engage Shift System allows the driver to switch seamlessly between a traditional 9-speed automatic and a classic 6-speed manual with a functioning clutch pedal. In manual mode, it uses seven separate clutches to recreate the analog feel of a manual transmission, including the ability to stall the car if the clutch is released improperly. The system actively adjusts its gear ratios depending on the driving environment and whether the driver wants a road-trip cruiser or a track setup

I too have never used launch control. I tried the electoernic sounds in our BMW iX about three times, then about the same amount of times in our Macan EV — but never again in each.

Nevertheless I too look forward to trying E-shift. I think that I will enjoy it for a long time. Could be wrong of course, but that is what trying new things is all about — seeing if they became long term sustained or a pretty quick fade-away.

I can not wait to try the Taycan’s E-shift. Just re-listened to one of the E-shift videos this morning and think it will be a long term winner for me. I hope a member of this forum gets it and posts their own review here soonest.
Is it the sound or feeling the shifts that you’re more interested in?

Kinda surprised that you wouldn’t use something that makes your car faster (launch control) but would use something that makes it louder and drive less smoothly, but everyone is different.

I could see this being kinda fun for some really aggressive driving, but if you’re actually trying to do laps at a track or something it wouldn’t make you any faster.

For those desiring the fake shifts, do you regularly floor it in normal mode to feel the REAL downshift to first, or do you prefer to be in sport mode and start in first when you floor it?

I did the downshift a few times, but prefer being in sport if driving fast.

If floored you feel it. Normal driving you would never know it has a transmission.
Normal relaxed driving it doesn’t shift to first gear at all. Only when you really floor the pedal it shifts to first

Are we gonna pretend that most people are using the full capabilities of the taycan, especially in terms of power, on a daily basis?

how many times per day do you reach the speed limit of the taycan? How many launch controls do you do per day?

I don’t think we need to be that concerned about performance, especially when porsche claims no impact, and even if there was an impact, you can disable it with a button

All manual transmissions affect performance, and yet it’s the choice of car enthusiasts :) These are not cars that chase performance at all costs, because they are road cars and not track cars

Anyone here ever liked a Star Wars movie? Watching Twilight Zone TV shows? Going to a fiction-romance movie, and/or choosing to see AI generated videos and read AI stories even though we all knew going in they were fake???

So much ranting here that since E-Shift is fake it is a travesty. Porsche never claimed nor has any poster here that E-shift in a Taycan is going to be as good as screaming around in a 911 at full song. It will be very different but that never precluded that both can be differentially fun. Why can E-shfit not be a delightful option for those who chose to spec it and then sporadically turn it on? Or enjoy an occasional ride in a friend’s 2027 Taycan which has it?

I am thinking that six months we will see a fair amount of posts from folks who have posted, that they went for a ride in their friend’s 2027 with E-shift and noted here, “I was surprised that while not for me, I really liked it.“ Guessing a few who post, ”as a result of that ride, I will add E-shift into my 2028 Taycan options list.” From some who bought an 2027 Taycan, “I never liked the 4S’s sound option, tried and abandoned its launch control, yet now repeatedly liking my E-Shift.

Also for sure, we will also see posts from those who got a ride in one with it and said, “one and done.” That will be just fine too.
