and the engine noise booming from the speakers doesn’t sound like “vroom, vroooom...”, but is a soft whisper: “... mercedes – mercedes – mercedes – ...”

I like that there will be Taycan competition from another german manufacturer. The attention in the space will help focus customer attention, possibly even sales.

Taycan and its competitors are likely to continue to be high priced, aspirational, halo, niche vehicles.
I would think a Taycan GT RS is coming soon, and a power and battery capacity upgrade as well.

Seven years of battery energy density improvements + super light pancake motors and the car weighs 10% more than a Taycan. Doesn't feel like progress to me.
The MB’s battery has ~10% more storage capacity than the Taycan’s largest battery, and the MB has 3 motors rather than the Taycan’s 2; these differences largely explain why the MB’s weight is similar.

J1.2 battery is 105kwh gross compared to 106 for the MB.
The Yasa motors are half the weight of Taycans.

The Mercedes is about 5300lbs, but I doubt thats gross weight

Rear looks amazing, front not so much. Wonder how this car looks with a dark color, maybe it is the yellow screwing things at the front.

I like the specs, but somehow modern Mercedes esthetics have always escaped me. To me the front looks like an econo-box dressed up with christmas lights, the back like american muscle-car. Maybe it looks better in person, but while the EQS just looked bland and neutral to me, the look of this car is actually negative to me. But perhaps that was intended, to make the car looks more polarizing - strongly attract a subset of the target market.

I think the looks will grow on people.

Taycan headlights / front with the “tears” was hated on lunch across the internet. And now it’s considered “better” than the facelift by many and a good unique look

I had 97KWH in my mind for the Taycan’s larger battery - and I didn’t confirm. Whoops.

Regardless the cars appear to be fairly close in curb weight

Usually, you can tell the brand right away just by looking at the car's design. Now try to imagine the stars gone... can you still tell who designed it?
I can't!
To me, that has no brand value.

You guys are exagerating a bit... the grill is literarly copy+pasted in design from their 2 door sport amg.

Beside the lightbar/headlights, the front looks like a mercedes, with or without the star.

The back 6 circle lights stay aligned with the concept car, and is definitely more unique than the back lightbar that plagues all new cars from all brands lately where you can't tell them apart in the night anymore. I'd say that's a good thing, to be able to distinguish a car on the road.

Sadly, they are taking the same route of cheap black plastic all over the rear, just like porsche did with the taycan, which is horrible in cars priced above 40k... at 150-200k, I definitely don't want any shit plastic...

It's like they had execess plastic after everyone told them that piano black plastic interior is horrible, and they just put it on the outside.

Mercedes-Benz is pulling a Richard Mille.
We made something technically impressive but also exceeding ugly (except for the 67-01), we dare you to buy it! ...and so we will.
I'm dropping out of this game and ordering an i7.
