Plaid with Track Pack top speed is 200 mph. Taycan refresh top speed 190 mph, despite the transmission.
3 motors vs 2 motors isn’t important - the motors’ maximum RPM and the final drive ratio matter for top speed.
Also, the refresh Model S LR is quicker AND faster than the Taycan Turbo in the...
3P’s top speed is the same as the Turbo’s despite the lack of a transmission.
The Lucid Air Sapphire and Tesla Plaid further demonstrate that a transmission isn’t required in a “higher speed car”, since both are faster than any Taycan.
Refreshed 3P reaches the 1/4 mile in the same 10.8/10.9 seconds as the Turbo, but the Tesla doesn’t require any sort of special launch mode to do so - just mash the accelerator and go, and no pause at any speed for a gearbox to change down.
So in the real world (apart from the Autobahn or 3AM...
The previous Model 3P did about 116-117 mph in the 1/4 mile - the new one hits more like 123/124 mph, with much of the increased acceleration happening above ~60 mph….
Refreshed Model 3P’s acceleration is proving to be about equal to a Taycan Turbo’s, and slightly ahead of the Ioniq5N’s. This combined with the suspension and other improvements makes for a pretty amazing performance value.
It’s no Taycan Turbo, but it’s hard to argue with at 1/3 the price…
Tires are an even more important component of any EV’s overall performance vs. an ICEV.
Low rolling resistance combined with good load capacity and responsive handing is a very tough engineering challenge indeed.
I’ve read about several instances of EV performance tires being replaced with...
If you like "light and nimble" then the 4900-lb. (!!) Ioniq 5N seems a curious choice...
Personally, I wouldn't be willing to give up a powered driver's seat with memory, regardless of whatever fake sounds the car might be capable of producing....
The ever-expanding offerings in...
There's been plenty of praise for the refreshed Model 3P. I drove the dual-motor LR version and was impressed overall - a nice improvement over my '22 in most ways.
I'm with you in being very curious about seeing those improvements brought to the Y, because it's likely to only add to that...
We split our time between Walloon Lake, MI and LaQuinta, CA, all the while trying to stay in the comfort zone for temperatures. (#firstworldproblems) Has worked well so far!
Interestingly, mosquitos really aren't a problem at our home in MI. I've spent plenty of time on lakes in WI and MN as...
It's a fair question.
I finally received the Lectron Vortex adapter today, but the car is now in storage for the summer, so I won't be able to test it until later this fall. Who knows - by then it may actually work! ;-)
Ending SOC not being captured it seems…
Charge rate would be interesting to see in order to compare to the Taycan. Taycan charge rate no doubt would be higher…
Hope the trip is going well!
I expected fewer stops in the Tesla, but not 50% fewer!
Looks like you’re choosing to minimize the number of stops?
You’re unlikely to have much “overhead time” with the SC network, and that in itself is a big advantage.
1800 miles in 2 days is definitely too much!
I planned for about 7-800 miles a day last time I EV’d across the country…
Do you plan to do the trip in 2 days in the Tesla, too?
Not a comforting thing to read as someone who’s awaiting a shipper pickup for a CA-MI journey…
This shipper has been good to work with in the past, but you know the old saying about past performance not being any guarantee of future results…
Good to know that you arrived (relatively) unscathed. Sorry that the scathing of your front air dam may be starting soon...
Wow - that's steep indeed!
I have a similar challenge on the entry to our garage, so my car lives outside. (shrug)
