Anyone going back to a Tesla?

A working physical adapter already exists at the Tesla Magic Dock test sites. What will take time is working out the vehicle communication and software issues with each OEM so you can plug and charge without using the Tesla app like at the test sites.

Anyone going back to a Tesla?

Personally I don’t believe range is the issue. With access to an extensive supercharger network like NACS and decent charging speed, I believe 250 miles of EV battery range is more than adequate since I like to stop every few hours anyway on a road trip. If you can’t achieve more range through...

Anyone going back to a Tesla?

I guess it depends on where you travel. Plan a CCS route from Pittsburgh to Charlotte. It’s 10.5 hours in the Taycan which includes 52 minutes charging at a Hyundai dealer in Charleston Chargepoint station if available. We have done it in 8 hours in our Model Y Performance many times with no...

Anyone going back to a Tesla?

only if Porsche does not gain access to the supercharger network (soon). I love the Taycan for all the reasons you stated, but I may go for a plaid since I need a road trip car

I agree that a retrofit is unlikely and I have no problem with using/ buying an adapter (hopefully arriving around the same time as Ford, GM, Mercedes, adapter show up!) but I wonder if there may be an opportunity to “build in” the adapter to the Taycan if there is space behind the existing port?

From Techcrunch: Mercedes-Benz is the latest automaker to adopt Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS). Starting in 2024 Mercedes EVs will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in North America. But Mercedes also announced today that the company is expanding its own charging...

GM follows Ford with NACS Tesla charge port adoption -- time to ditch CCS1 (at least the physcial design)

I don’t think Porsche understands how bad the CCS charging network is. Just today at EA I plugged in and got the same “Charging Error please unplug” after 5 minutes trying to connect that I got last week. After retrying and calling EA who rebooted the charger -still no luck. This is a station...

I sent a version of the letter Daveo4EV penned on this topic to the President of PCNA who by the way resigned today. Volvo just joined the party at the Tesla superchargers. I'm writing this as I sit at an EA station for 20 minutes going from 45% to 85% maxing out at 96kw. Four chargers here with several "not available." Come on VW/Porsche follow daveo4EV reasonable request for the three AAA's (Access to Tesla...

I agree. Was thinking of the Macan EV for my wifes next car to replace her Model Y Performance that she loves. Gonna be a hard sell if she has to use the clunky CCS cable.

How can Porsche loyalists like us convince VW/Porsche to do this? Having an adapter for my Taycan would make it perfect knowing I can take road trips without worry.

🤯 Ford EV will get NACS (Tesla) charging port standard! Just announced by CEO's Farley and Musk

That’s a good point. Why couldn’t we purchase the DC adapter from Ford and use it at a Tesla SC? Maybe it’s a software issue that Porsche would have to support. I hope Porsche is considering the same as Ford. Waiting for EA to get better will take years and frankly I like the NACS better than...
