Tesla and government regulations forced the main stream car manufacturers to invest in EV's. They were quite content to continue to earn high margins on past investments in ICE technology. Porsche pricing is designed to manage the shift towrds EV's, while not hurting more profitable ICE sales...

I agree. With 30,000 pre-orders they can lose half and be in a better position to hit production deadlines and make higher margins. Porsche has never been a volume chasing brand plus they want to control the migration of their customers from their more profitable ICE cars. The real target here...

2018 Panamera 4S and 2019 Macan S here (wife's car). I believe Tesla will facelift and upgrade the interior the Model S around the time of the Taycan launch. Personally, the fit and finish/driving dynamics of Tesla is still not at the level of Porsche, so it was never a serious option for me...

Another factor would be a significant improvement in battery technology. I just read that Porsche will introduce improved battery tech in 2020. It is not clear if this tech will be in the Taycan at launch.
