To be safe, I do set it at 80% so as not to tax my luck!
It should be noted that I RARELY use this charger. It has been recalled and "fixed" and my confidence in it is pretty low. When it was recalled, Porsche was nice enough to pay for a better (non-Porsche) charger!
I am now "enjoying" the fact that I have ZERO recalls...that "pleasure" is increased by the fact that I have had so many recalls..Without the many recalls I have endured, the current moment of ZERO recalls would be unremarkable!
The Porsche charger I have has several adapter cords for various US outlets:220 volt and 110 volt. The charger adjusts to those cords so that (theoretically) it will not draw too much power. It will not operate if it senses a problem.
I just got the ARB6 OTA and then, a few days later, got the letter from Porsche. So I was confused and asked them if I STILL needed to take the car in for service. This is what I got back:
Thank you for reaching out to Porsche Cars North America regarding your Taycan (VIN...
Now I am curious..I am going to try to charge my KIA with my Porsche Charger (which sits in the Taycan's trunk; rarely used except on trips (to charge Taycan)..I may have the same issue! (altho I have 3 chargers so always a backup..)
When I setup my Taycan for off peak charging, I spent days of trying, testing, failing until I got it to work (German software engineering at its "best")...Then I got a KIA EV6 and it took about 3 minutes..what a contrast!
I have that checked and find it restricts charging only slightly...I commonly see 125-150 on 350 chargers...I don't think using that option forces a 50 rate (at least in my experience)
I consider plugs as temporary fixes (ideal is dismount tire; patch from inside; rebalance). I've had a plug come out at speed, so I am wary.
I am sure that 99% of the time that is not an issue..hate to be doing 90 mph , tho, when the 1% strikes!
PS _ I DO have a plug kit in my car but , as...
Amen brother. If they had their way, I would need a "KIA" adapter and a "Porsche" adapter ..that's bull..I bought a Lectron and it works fine for both.
My KIA EV6 has Tesla access and the ONLY way I use it is via the Tesla app..no big deal (and KIA's app is not mature by all reports..). I suspect you are right: Manufacturers want to (try to) control the process - but that is not critical (and inevitably not as smooth as direct use of the Tesla...
And Acura / Honda just got Supercharger access also...list ahead of us getting smaller......still predicting December (or later!)
Honda And Acura EV Owners Can Now Use Tesla Superchargers
