We have a 2023 4S,93kw battery and the Mission E wheels. I know the large wheels are the worst for range, but they look so cool, especially since we had them painted to match the car. Anyway since new, the best range the car has ever shown is 384 km at 100% battery charge. Since it has gotten colder here in Canada and we are only charging to 80% to save the battery, the range is showing only 177 Km consistently. That's less than 2 hours or driving time at highway speeds.

We have switched to Pirelli snows on Porsche 20" Aero wheels, the car is kept in a heated underground garage at around 15 degrees C. Still only 177km of range. We are retired and don't have a routine, so have never preconditioned the battery before using the car. The Porsche App on our phones have not communicated with the car since Nov 8. We have an appointment with Porsche for a software update on the vehicle.

We live in a small town Gananoque, which is roughly 250 km equidistant between 3 major Canadian cities, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. In the summer we could drive to any of these without stopping to recharge. This was one of the conditions of buying an EV, that it had the range to go to this cities. This is no longer the case in winter. Our closet cities are Kingston 25 KM and Brockville 40 KM. We can easily go through over 50% of our range just to go grocery shopping and doing some running around. Last week I drove into Kingston with 61% charge, I drove the freeway at 140km/h (It's a Porsche after all ), and was down to 25% charge upon arrival. I took secondary roads and drove like a Granny to get the car home. We shouldn't have range anxiety for local driving, but there it is.

Any ideas why the range is so poor with this car?

Sorry to hear that you have such a low range. on your drive to Kingston as described, did you check the consumption for that trip. 25 km is quite a short distance to get any heat into the battery, and you may have had a lot of energy burned for battery heating? But still consuming 36% of capacity for 25 km sounds quite excessive. Was it super cold that day? Or lots of sleet and snow on the roads?

Do you have an OBD reader and CarScanner to check your voltages??

Low temperature kills range.
You running the heater too and stuff? The guessometer is factoring all this in.
My uncle lives in Gananoque btw......

Roads were clear, believe it was -5C, battery temp was up to 21C, 13.5V. Interior heat set at 18C, but like I said, car is stored in garage at 15C. Don't have an OBD reader, but have often thought of getting one.

Heater set at 18C, ambient temp in garage was 15C, so batteries and cabin do not have to heat up much.

I think there is something major wrong with this particular car because it seems my best summer mileage is worse the other peoples' worst winter mileage. My winter mileage is setting new world records at being bad.

Yes, we would be happy with those numbers, which equate to 330km and 405km. We are getting 177km and 384km. The mileage drop seemed to coincide with our phones losing connection with the car.

I currently get 271km at 80. We have had sub zero temperatures the last weeks, snow and wind.

Summer range at 80% was more like 350-380km

Yes that sounds like there is something wrong! Might be worth to ask the Porsche center to get a read out from your battery.

Your trip to Kingston consumed from 61% to 25% SoC ie 36%! That would be about 25+ kWh! For 25 km! That is abnormal! Especially if you have 15 C in the garage and not much heat in the car

As per @Scandinavian 's question, what consumption figures does your MyPorsche app report for these trips? Just to check that they're consistent with the range estimates.

In addition to the above, check your tire pressures, as they tend to be lower in the winter. I checked my wife's Taycan's tires last week and found they were 20 p.s.i. below spec. That can impact range by 10% or so.

I personally wouldn't be concerned about AC charging to 100% during the winter, if my drives were that kind of distance.

There's probably not any single reason you aren't getting the range you need, but rather a lot of little issues that are all contributing. Driving slower will most certainly increase your range, as drag is the Achilles heel of EV's at highway speeds, and drag increases as the square of the velocity. Keep in mind that wind can aid/hurt your range as well. Driving 140 km/h into a 20 km/hr headwind is no different than driving 160 Km/hr into no wind, or 180 Km/hr with a 20 Km/hr tailwind. Colder air is denser as well, which will increase the drag when temperatures are low.

Best wishes finding a solution for your use case. We do have to be aware of a lot more factors that affect range when driving EV's longer distances...things that are insignificant for ICE vehicles.

I am currently getting around 205 miles from a full charge in the uk.
I pre heat the car Monday - Saturday and use heated seats and heated wheel most of the time. Only had the car a few weeks so cannot comment if this will improve as the weather warms up but reading other posts I am expecting this to go up

Well, EV is not intended for mandatory long distance driving. Best advice is plan to take a week off for the trip for service. Book a hotel room night before the service. If i am retired, i wouldn't have got such a toy car. Most sensible choice would had been a lexus. Even the LC500h is a better choice.

My car (4S perf plus battery with 20” turbo wheels on Nokian hakkaprliitta R5 EV tires with front and back tire pressure set as the car suggests - about 2.8 front and 2.6 back if I’m not mistaken) is stored outside and it has been about -5 to -12 recently. At 80%, the car reports I have about 270-280km. 170km is very low….

PS I also keep the hvac at 18-19C and it’s still freaking warm inside.
