We have a 2023 4S,93kw battery and the Mission E wheels. I know the large wheels are the worst for range, but they look so cool, especially since we had them painted to match the car. Anyway since new, the best range the car has ever shown is 384 km at 100% battery charge. Since it has gotten colder here in Canada and we are only charging to 80% to save the battery, the range is showing only 177 Km consistently. That's less than 2 hours or driving time at highway speeds.

We have switched to Pirelli snows on Porsche 20" Aero wheels, the car is kept in a heated underground garage at around 15 degrees C. Still only 177km of range. We are retired and don't have a routine, so have never preconditioned the battery before using the car. The Porsche App on our phones have not communicated with the car since Nov 8. We have an appointment with Porsche for a software update on the vehicle.

We live in a small town Gananoque, which is roughly 250 km equidistant between 3 major Canadian cities, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. In the summer we could drive to any of these without stopping to recharge. This was one of the conditions of buying an EV, that it had the range to go to this cities. This is no longer the case in winter. Our closet cities are Kingston 25 KM and Brockville 40 KM. We can easily go through over 50% of our range just to go grocery shopping and doing some running around. Last week I drove into Kingston with 61% charge, I drove the freeway at 140km/h (It's a Porsche after all ), and was down to 25% charge upon arrival. I took secondary roads and drove like a Granny to get the car home. We shouldn't have range anxiety for local driving, but there it is.

Any ideas why the range is so poor with this car?
I would suggest pre-heating the battery from the mains allow at least 45 minutes before setting off. I'm only in uk but even so in a cold snap it's made a huge difference to the range. And pre heat the car too on mains electricity rather than from the battery. I'm on 19" wheels and tyres for the winter such that it is in UK vs Canada.

Well, EV is not intended for mandatory long distance driving. Best advice is plan to take a week off for the trip for service. Book a hotel room night before the service. If i am retired, i wouldn't have got such a toy car. Most sensible choice would had been a lexus. Even the LC500h is a better choice.

Well, they have good fuel economy and reliable. Getting the Taycan is gamble with money. For a retired, it's money that shouldn't be used for gamble as much.

If I wanted economy I wouldn’t buy a Porsche. But if you’ve got it you might as well spend ‘cos you can’t take it with you … as the saying goes.

In addition to the above, check your tire pressures, as they tend to be lower in the winter. I checked my wife's Taycan's tires last week and found they were 20 p.s.i. below spec. That can impact range by 10% or so.

I personally wouldn't be concerned about AC charging to 100% during the winter, if my drives were that kind of distance.

There's probably not any single reason you aren't getting the range you need, but rather a lot of little issues that are all contributing. Driving slower will most certainly increase your range, as drag is the Achilles heel of EV's at highway speeds, and drag increases as the square of the velocity. Keep in mind that wind can aid/hurt your range as well. Driving 140 km/h into a 20 km/hr headwind is no different than driving 160 Km/hr into no wind, or 180 Km/hr with a 20 Km/hr tailwind. Colder air is denser as well, which will increase the drag when temperatures are low.

Best wishes finding a solution for your use case. We do have to be aware of a lot more factors that affect range when driving EV's longer distances...things that are insignificant for ICE vehicles.
Thanks, this has been going on for a while, so I don't believe to be wind related. The purpose of going into Kingston was to get snow tires put on. Tire pressure is 40-41 psi.

As per @Scandinavian 's question, what consumption figures does your MyPorsche app report for these trips? Just to check that they're consistent with the range estimates.
My Porsche ap hasn't worked since early November. We have an appointment with Porsche next week for a software update on the car.

Agreed, we are going to give that a try, but still......................range is off the charts poor

Just checked the range of my 4S 2021.
It was 253 km at 85% while we are having temp's of -7C to -23C here.
I'm having the small battery!
Nokian winter tires.
Recently only short trips and lot's of heating ie. high consumption.
So.. I'd like to say there's something wrong with that HV battery.

Wife just was down at car to put new Weathertech winter floor mats in. She had previously set the charge to 100% as an experiment. Range at 100% is 213km or 132 miles!

Would be intresting to see the cell voltages.
At Porsche they will see it in PIWIS but not report to customer.. so we have to send some money to Rostov-on-Don and support Putins attack war to Ukraine to find this out with 'Car Scanner'.

With empty battery it may look like this - and I'm not sure if this is very good:

What was the SoC at that stage?? And had you just driven the car when you took that screen shot??

Would be interesting to see your results when you charge that up to 90+%. I think it should be much more even Across the cells.

Here is my car at about 30%Soc. you can however clearly see the two new modules that have put in. Once I charge the car to 85 -90% it equals out and is quite even.

It still doesn’t make sense he has so low mileage. I only precondition for about 10 minutes and still get a decent mileage

[/QUOTE. Agreed it seems way too low but full preconditioning in very cold climate must help considerably and can’t help trying. Just another item to tick off when handing the car to Porsche to sort out.
