I have a 2022 Taycan 4s, and twice in the last few months I was making a left turn with no traffic nearby when the collision avoidance system jammed on the brakes and made the vehicle come to a complete and immediate stop. Besides scaring the hec our of me, this could have caused an accident if someone was right behind me in the left turn lane. Any idea as to what is going on here? I'll take it in to the dealer and have them look at it, but it will be hard for them to replicate it since it has only happened twice.

That is scary. If I back out of my driveway too fast (driveway is on a slope but nothing crazy) the car thinks I'm going to hit the road with the backend and slams on the brakes. Could something like this be the case in the 2 instances of phantom braking you experienced? Do you recall exactly where those instances occurred so that you can try to reproduce the issue (with no other cars around if possible).

I have a 2023 4S. While driving on adaptive cruise control, thankfully in stop and go traffic, my car engaged the collision prevention system as it got triggered by a flying wrapper in front of the car. It didn’t come to a stop but for a brief microsecond, the brakes were fully engaged. Definitely a bit scary

Mine does this when reversing on to my driveway. Slams on the brakes despite being 6-7ft from the wall. Hasn't done it in traffic so far - my old Audi used to do it regularly when I came out our work carpark and I had many near-misses with people rear ending me as a result

It happened to me yesterday for the third or fourth time. Almost got rear ended due to it. You have to leave a ridiculous amount of space when turning left behind an oncoming car.

My one complaint about this car is that the sensor programming is awful. Don’t even get me started on ACC.

Say more about ACC :) Not asking to be cheeky, just curious as a relatively new Taycan owner

I had something like this happen when backing out of my fairly benign driveway today. It’s day 2 with the car. but it is shockingly strong! can this be disabled? I feel like others have described it as part of maneuvering assist.

Don’t try to change lanes in heavy slow freeway traffic. For example, you’re cruising along at 65 with ACC on. Traffic slows to 20. A car passes on your left going say 25 and you decide to change lanes into the spot behind it. ACC, sensing the car in front of you is going 20, has you at 20. As you change lanes, the sensor interprets the small space between lanes as open road and accelerates hard toward 65, then as you finish the lane change behind the car going 25, it has to slam on the brakes. Scares the crap out of you and makes the drivers around you think you’re having a seizure. My advice, if you’re using ACC, stay in one lane.

If you are going 65, and traffic slows to 20, if ACC doesn't slow the car to 20, either you have ACC set too short range, or it needs to be repaired.
Reread what I wrote. ACC does slow you to 20. Then going 20 if you still have ACC engaged and change lanes, it will read the small space between lanes and accelerate hard up towards its setting (65 in my example) thinking the road is clear, which it’s not.

I reread your post. You are right.

I don't think this issue is isolated to just the Taycan. I experienced the collision avoidance system kicking in while driving my wife's Mercedes EQE. For no reason, it just decided to slam on the brakes while I was backing out of an empty parking lot. The problem was remedied by an OTA update.

I had this happen to me last night, I was making a left turn, with oncoming traffic, there was one car I needed to get past me and I started a slow roll and bam the car stops because the system thought there would be a collision.
I despise the new driver safety tech.

So I went back and reviewed my dash cam tape. Looks like I made a left turn immediately after a car cleared the intersection. Even though the car had passed me, it was close enough to set off the collision avoidance system and slam on the brakes. I'm afraid to set the system to be less sensitive as I want it to work well in a real potential collision situation. I guess I have to let traffic clear a bit more before turning left. It's just too sensitive. Not good.

This and the take over steering function on this car are annoying. I haven't had any near misses, just unnecessary jumps in heart rate.

My Mercedes GLS use to do this a lot. Almost got rear ended. There was a specific piece of road that it would happen 100% of the time. It was a sharp curve with shadows from trees. Does the area you turned at have shadows? My taycan beeps at me but never applies brakes. Is there a setting to adjust?
