I’m on the brink of getting the Porsche Dashcam fitted to my Cayenne but was mega shocked at the installation costs - 2½ hours at £289 an hour. That’s with pre-wiring in place too!

I’ve found a local company who specialise in camera installations who can fit the Porsche cameras (which I’ll buy direct from Porsche) at a fraction of the cost.

I’ll let you know how I get on…

Dash cam installed today by Jake from Dash Cam Installs and have to say that he did a great job.

My car was pre-wired but nevertheless, it was still a fiddly job but took around an hour all told which is considerably less than the main dealer were quoting.

Have to say that I am very happy with the results - OEM camera with installation came in at around £500 - not exactly cheap but it's way better than the dealer installation.

Let me know, I'd like more storage but 256 was definitely problematic.
FWIW, I've put the 128 Gb card through its paces and I have not experienced any difficulties.

I've just taken delivery of my new Taycan with the official Porsche Dashcam and this is my one disappointment with the car.

The dash cam itself is ok - the Blackvue I had in my Tesla was way better - but my main problems are:

(a) Aesthetics: I really thought they'd provide a more "integrated" look;
(b) [This is my main bugbear] The position: it's always in my field of view:-

As you can see from the image above, the dash cam is very-visible below the rear-view camera, and that red light gets annoying!

This is what the setup looks like from the front:-

You can see that they've tried to centre the camera, which is understandable, but unless I adjust my seating position so that my head is virtually touching the sunroof, I'm always seeing the camera.

The online Porsche Dashcam guide shows a different placement:-

Clearly off centre, but for those of us in a right-hand drive car this should mean that the camera is hidden.

What do others think?

• If you have the Porsche dash cam in your car is it fitted below the mirror (as in my case), or offset?

• Since the car is less than a day old, should I go back to my dealer and ask them to move the camera?

Thanks!

It does look ugly, you are right. And although it's hard to see on the images it seems more bulky than the Blackvue 9000x. There does seem to be space to push it further outside your line of sight so yes, why not ask the dealer to reinstall.

It's ugly and in your line of vision. Even with a red LED. Image quality is not great.

The app is mediocre. And they're doing vendor lock-in nonsense where the dashcam _can_ connect to the car's wifi hotspot, but only when you pay for the Porsche SIM card subscription (and even then, it's unclear what the benefit would even be).

The documentation and settings are talking about "radar" to trigger recording when the car is parked, but that does nothing at as I just had some baddies walking and feeling around the car, but nothing was recorded.

Not recommended.
