New to Taycan & looking for advice from those in the know. Buying a new car for my wife and we are test driving a 2023 Sport Tourismo GTS with 2kmiles tomorrow and a 24 facelift Taycan Saloon with 5k miles. The GTS is loaded with £29k of extra's and the new shape Taycan has a few upgrades. Both are the same price (pretty much). Torn between fully loaded older Tourismo and shiny newer longer range saloon. I have a 5yo Tesla Model 3 with 123k miles on it so we're well used to EV's and range isnt particularly a factor in our decision. More concerned about the gremlins on the old model that I've read about. Any thoughts guidance from thos who have owned/driven both welcomed.

I'd go for the 2024 model.
3 of us in our company have Taycans, all 2021 vintage. Mine's only been in once for a suspension issue (£6000 of repair under warranty) plus twice for re-calls, but the other two seem to be in every 3-6 months for various problems. Don't get me wrong, this is the best car I have every had ( which included 2 boxters previously) and is sooo much better than the M3 Tesla I had for 4 years.
I dont know enough about the new model but they must have fixed a lot of the issues that were around 2-3 years ago.
I'm sure they have improved the battery pack issues.
I'd have no hesitation about buying the Turbo I now have, but surely the 2024 model has to be a safer bet. I'm totally ignoring depreciation as life is about today (not tomorrow)!

24 is not the facelift, first of all.
MY25 is the facelift.

Take whichever options are more important to you. Will you actually use those options?

....
Year 2024 could be J1.2

OP - ST to saloon is a material decision factor IMO. More rear headroom (a lot more) in the ST and whilst subjective, I prefer the way it looks.

GTS is arguably the pick of the range, so what model J1.2 are you looking at? 4S or up will be as quick, but depending on options won't feel as "complete"....

Spec on both needed really.

If both were STs (appreciate they are not) and the J1.2 had RAS and PAR... I could be tempted. But I doubt that would see them at the same price point.

Thanks, that was our conclusion in the end

We bought a well specced 24 plate ex demo Shade Green Taycan Saloon J1.2 in the end. We wanted dual motor but only CT & ST versions were available with awd and my missus was adamant she didn't want the "estate" version ?. Personally I prefer the CT but it's her that's going to be driving it mostly so hey ho. I'm sure I'll get over the crushing disappointment and eventually manage to cope with driving a Porsche saloon.

The Sport Turismo shape is much more practical as the saloon boot aperture can be quite restrictive (I've had both) when loading suitcases etc.

At this point I would not purchase J1.1 (any) no matter how many toys it may have. The J1.2 is a welcome upgrade - notably range and already depreciating fast so there will be bargains galore.

I have a MY23 GTS ST from new and is a dream machine and would dearly love the J1.2 replacement if it wasn't for the massive depreciation and the increase in cost from 2 years ago - the economics are simply "nuts". You will absolutely be delighted with the GTS ST but note that a J1.2 4S ST packs the same power output and has 30% more range.

My GTS ST has been faultless in 2 years - only recall work and no drama so don't let your mind be tainted by the comments on this forum as we love to moan (me included). Besides, all cars will be warranty protected and have all software upgrades and recall campaigns applied before you get the keys.

I had a loan 4 CT today whilst mine was getting its 2 year service and to be honest it was more spritely than I was expecting which made me think that probably the sensible step is to go down the model range, 2nd hand / ex demo 4S ST (rather than CT) and get more value for your £s.

For your wife, go for the color and gismos she likes best. If she was ok with driving a 5 year old Tesla, then driving dynamics are not high on the list anyway. Best to avoid complicating this decision. If you were buying for an enthusiast, the nuances would create lots of decisions…in your case, best to keep it simple and buy Porsche CPO.

Get the facelift - battery life, slightly more efficient, do you really need the GTS performance?
And get one with RAS - it's almost 30cm longer and 15cm wider than the M3.
