Hello,
I got a new 21" wheels set today at my dealer and I got an advice of having an alignment of a cost around £1000 and possible could go up to £1500 if camber adjustment is needed in the fronts. Of course that sounds crazy price even for a Porsche, but I am more concerned about the actual configuration and what is considered normal wear and what not.
So I have a 4S with rear axle steering as an option. 2 years ago we did an alignment when I bought the car and the settings after alignments are attached. I had the Continental Premium contact 6 and I did change one of the rear tyres due to puncture during some works just after purchase while kept the other with 6.2mm thread.
10 months in the measurements on a health check, it did show a balanced wear in the fronts and in the rears the center and outer was wearing the same where the inner was much less.
The readings I have in record are(keep in mind rear left was new when rear right had 0.8 worn) :
10 months after and 9,000 miles
Rear right Inner 5.6 - 4.5 - 4.4
Rear left inner 5.7 - 4.6 - 4.5
2 years after 25,000 miles
Rear right Inner 4.7 - 3.1 - 3.1
Rear left inner 5.3 - 3.6 - 3.5
I am still not convinced that the if alignment is the reason for the unequal wear on the rears how that could have been presented only few months after the alignment had be done? Could have been the configuration a bit off, towards a toe in setting? Could have been another issue like a calibration of the rear steering system? Could have been the continental which some said they tend to wear more in the outer? Could have been the tyre pressure; I always had it at 2.4 bar per specs without much load even if usually we were 3 in the car with some luggage?
I would appreciate any recommendations or even any decent independent garage that can make a proper alignment diagnosis in Berkshire or nearby (I would never go again to kwik-fit due to past experience with my Bmw). Car looks great with the 21" Spyder. Thanks all.
