Only issue I have is with manual charging flap.
They freeze in the open position when it's about -5c or colder.

They will not 'latch' shut till it warms up. In the pic if you try and close it, it just bounces back to the position shown. Leave it in the sun a while and it then closes normally.

If I was in a hurry I'd get an extension cord and use my wife's hair dryer.

I am from Norway… Did you have a Taycan standing while it was -20 and a lot of snow outside?
Yes we visited Trysil and I had the Taycan parked outside. It snowed a bit and we had snow cover similar to a picture here in this thread one night. Some other nights we had very cold weather and there was a layer of ice on all the windows. But no issues with the car at all. The pre heating was very valuable then.

Since my purchase in September 2020, my Taycan 4S has lived outdoors year round, and I have had no problems.
Given 4 wheel drive/rear wheel steering/weight the vehicle is a great winter car, it's perfect for cold and snowy Upstate NY. I think the battery prefers cold weather to the hot weather in parts south.
The only problem I have had in really cold weather is getting the tortoise icon when using Sport Plus in 10 degrees F...it draws too much current for a cold battery, and thus triggers a cutoff of power.
Despite all the war stories about problems, my 2020 4S has had no problems, save those of my own making.

It will still drive ok in that position. So I just drive it till the catch works again.

I have tried covers etc when it's cold, but they don't work.

Took it to the dealers, but they said they would need to see it when faulty/frozen to see what was wrong.
I asked about bringing it in next time it was freezing - but they said Taycans needed to be pre booked in and there were no appointments for a matter of months. ?

Are you familiar if all car come with this pre heat? Is that a part of the head pump?

Would you say RWD would be fine in the winter condition as well? For the driving in the snow part?

Personally, I prefer 4 wheel drive, since is offers better control and traction in snowy/icy conditions.
I suppose if you drive on roads that are essentially flat, or are well maintained, 2 wheel drive would be fine.

I do not have the heat pump since that was not std spec in France. I have one of these heaters that frequently have failed. But luckily enough it worked great in Norway. On my return to France and in for some updates it failed a week later!

You can start the pre heat with the MyPorsche app and it is independent of heat pump. Both systems will however use battery energy to heat the car and more importantly, the battery.

Rear wheel drive with the excellent Nordic winter tyres in Scandinavia, will be absolutely fine. Of course you will get better traction from all wheel drive, but No problems with just rear wheel drive.

Many years ago we often visited Trysil in Norway with a Volvo 740 RWD and had no problems. Same with a BMW 525I RWD. Good winter tyres of course needed.

regardless of having RWD or FWD you will only be good driving in snow if you have the proper tires on the car. having snow tires makes a huge difference, all season tires really don't cut it and summer tires are just dangerous in snowy conditions
