2024 4S with 6,000 mi.
Battery temp indicator on my cluster went up to 82F with red line next to it.
Is it safe to drive? What is the ideal temp? Weather is moderate, I’m in CA.

The temperature is normal as indicated by the value and the blue bar that is in the middle or so. The red line is always there as a maximum temperature limit. You are good!

You can see temperature going as high as 110F for example when the car preheats the battery for optimal charging speed, which is again normal and expected.

+ I checked Porsche printed Taycan brochure and it says for optimal charging the battery temperature needs to be between 86F and 95F that the car manages, but I know I have seen it go higher than that when the preheat is activated by setting a charger as destination.

1. You're reading it wrong. Your temperature level is the blue line. It's in the middle.
2. that is not a warning. Warnings are very visible and obvious, and have sound feedback also.
3. Maximum temperature is 120F; so 40 more degrees in your case. At 120, your car will not catch fire, but the battery will be throttled and deliver less power, in an attempt to cool down.
4. Temperatures between 80 and 90 F, after 2-3 hours of driving, are the normal range of temperature. If you navigate to a charging destination, the battery will get much hotter.

Maximum temeprature I have seen my car reach was 64 celsius - so about 150F, while navigating to a charger in 43 degrees outside in italy.

@chun, I wonder why it is preheating so aggressively where their own statements in the documentation to achieve minimum charging time calls for the battery temperature to be between 86F and 95F for J1 I, with those temperatures significantly lower in the revised J1 II models.

It was a 1 time case; and in that case the charging rate was horrible. So I would say it was a momentary glitch / bug - at least I would hope. I don't often drive through 43 C degrees outside.

Normally my car pre-heats up the battery to 95-105F to be prepared for charging, and anything below 95 results in slower charging.

that is how i read it too, optimal is between 86 and 95, but then someone from here corrected me and pointed out that there was an update and optimal for charging is now more like 105.
i noticed that on my display too during DC charging--it is happy doing 105 and more

The large update that was done a few years ago changed the temperatures for my 2020 Turbo.

Driving long distances the battery is normally at 30 yo 31 C ( 87 F)

But if the PCM navigates to a charging station and preheats the battery, it normally reaches 40 C (105).

I have checked also with CarScanner a few times and the inlet water temperature has been up to 54 C when pre heating.

The new J1.ll I believe has a different chemistry in the battery and benefits from lower optimal temperatures. However I do not think the construction of the cells has changed. Macan did introduce prismatic cells instead of pouch cells?

Both macan and new taycan are 8:1:1 (N:M:C).
Taycan still uses the same module design as old taycan

The new chemistry lowers cost & increases the temperature range for optimal operations.

I don't see any problem there. As stated, the car will reduce power if battery is overheated.
Had this on Autobahn after HPC and going full throttle afterwards several times.
It cools down pretty quickly and delivers full power again.
You can support the process by switching into Sport Plus. Everything will be focused on cooling the battery down than. Even your cabin A/C will be shut off.
