Booking deposits - much variation?

Hi Guys,

It’s almost a year since the launch of Taycan. At that time I paid £1000 to declare interest and subsequently £4K more (to total £5000) to reserve a spot and place an order. (Worth every penny !!!)

I’m hearing one dealer asking £10,000 now for this reserve / booking fee .... anyone pay more than £5000 for UK orders placed in 2020?

The dealer is on the hook for the car, so they set how much they want as a deposit. The amount varies by how the car is configured, dealer policies, and personal experience with the dealer.

I was asked for 10k, settled on 7k.

I think it depends on the dealer/sales to judge how easy it is for them to sell the spec, if the customer is dropping out. I paid 15% on order confirmation, and that was a lot, considering that the car was delayed over 5 months.

BTW, my dealer until last week got only 10 Taycans so far! Now he got another 17 Taycan 4S last week and still has 6 to sell. Lucky one of it was mine!

My dealer initially took £10k from me but when I kicked a fuss they sent me £5k back as I found out other dealers were taking £5k.

The paper work I got actually said the breakdown:

Taycan, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne - £5k
911 S and GTS models - £5k
911 Turbo and Turbo S models £10k

The policy here in Thailand is
10% of based price to book the allocation.
100% of options before the lock date.

In total, I've paid around £50k.

Given it's 100% up to the dealer what they want as a deposit, there's going to be a lot of variation. The dealer would like 100% deposit, and customers would like 0% deposit, and there's a whole lot of space in between for negotiation.
