Buying a Used Taycan for sub £50k

Longer term I would expect the battery and drive train to be robust and that 3rd party mainteance providers become available. This may well firm up long term residuals similar to Tesla S's - especially for post 2017 models.

Note the Porsche approved used 111 point check does not include battery degradation. Nor do any routine servicing checks or 3 year end of manufacturer warranty checks.
When buying used check the range is as expected. Ask the dealer to share a battery state of health report. Walk if they’re reluctant or refuse. Check battery degradation vs. Warranty terms.
Be careful with age. The manufacturers battery warranty expires after 8 years. It is unclear if any warranty extension will be available. Reliability issues mean that any follow on battery warranty is likely to be expensive. Taycan depreciation is a significant factor. That will continue towards year 8 as the remaining battery warranty runs down. The motor industry appears unprepared for aged EV support. Currently the only post warranty fix option appears expensive Porsche franchise labour rates and parts prices. That could mean you’re left with salvage value!
Buying sub £50k probably means buying a 4 year old car. Unless you like a gamble, have deep pockets and can tolerate unreliability I’d suggest buying a new Tesla Model 3 for that price instead! Taycan’s look and drive great but are like having a gorgeous nymphomaniac deranged alcoholic girlfriend who is also having an affair with the service manager at your local dealer!

A PCP would give a guaranteed future value but that won’t be high and so your interest costs and repayments will be relatively high.

Financially a Panamera may be a better deal. I veered from buying one of those to buying a Taycan instead. I now think I made the wrong choice.

If buying forever or for a very specific humdrum purpose, buy dull.

Otherwise, nympho all the way.

I recently hired an 82 kwh Polestar 2 (£99 for 3 days from Hertz Oxford, if your interested) and was very impressed that the 340 range was very accurate (cross country). However for similar sub £50k cost of the Polestars puts me into a good choice of Perf Plus's. I intend to buy (deposit+loan) or PCP but interested to know others experience of buying used Taycans? Though ready to buy now I plan to wait till Sept when hope to see more choice after new regs. Ideally I'd like a Cross-T but not sure the uplift is worth it? TiA

about used Taycans… I ordered mine new (ST MY23) and after 2 years and 20k kms I had only one small problem after 6 months of the delivery (noise due to the AC compressor holder) and got fixed with the warranty. Since then I had no problems (except for the needed firmware update)
I don’t know whether I am lucky or because I have a MY23. I think it is the latter and the Taycan had some bad press because of some of the widely spread problems of the early MYs. I saw in this forum that some MY23 owners had other problems (like the famous heater failure) but I don’t think it should be considered as the norm. This forum acts as a magnifier to a point that even though I didn’t have much problems I ended up buying a 3 year extended warranty for the peace of mind. Only time will tell but for now my car seems to be reliable.
In short if you buy used Taycan, this would be recommendation
- go with a MY23 model or earlier
- still take a 3 year extended warranty for the peace of mind (it is easy if you buy one with a warranty that you can just extend)
- check the battery SoH. Buying an EV with 99% SoH is not similar as a 85%, that’s a 15% of decrease in range.
- range wise I have 440 km in summer, and rather for high speed (in the city it consumes much more). I have a RWD ST with the worst 21 in rims for range.

PS: a very personal opinion:
- Taycan is a real Porsche that gives you a smile every time you look at it or drive it. I would never go with another EV for those reasons. When I was buying a car I wasn’t looking for an EV and still ended up with the Taycan. If you are just looking to buy an EV and you don’t care about Porsche driving experience and looks, I would go with other brands like Tesla or Kia (I don’t know about Polestar), it is much cheaper and owners seem to be happy.
- I would go with ST vs CT. It has the practicality of the CT but much sportier look (again this is a very personal opinion and depends on what you are looking for)

its good to hear personal experience, which is not all bad! I've driven the Taycan and it is undoubtedly a proper drivers car which happens to be an EV. This would be my 3rd EV, with the last being a Jaguar IPace - also great drive and once which also had bad press for faults but mine did not have even the smallest issue after 3 years. For my budget it would have to be a 20/21 car so proceed with caution seems to be the thing to do!!

Extended warranty is a must so, buying within the OPC fleet is essential, despite there being some very nice CT’s outside the network, buying one private or at an independent would necessitate taking a very large brave pill. I’m surprised at how helpful OPC’s have been when enquiring about cars of this vintage.

I would say that if you do go in with your eyes wide open and do all necessary due diligence, the used values are very compelling.

Despite all the issues with my car, I was looking for a replacement of late, but have decided to stick with mine for another year, as there is literally nothing else I would currently prefer than a Taycan..... So may as well extend warranty and Connected Drive, get an Mot and reassess next year.

Most Taycans are taken on business lease for tax reasons.

They end up back at main dealers at end of lease.
The UK tax system makes it beneficial to just take another new lease on one.

No incentives at all for used or private buyers.

Hence, huge amount of used stock with limited demand.

I have owned my Taycan since new. Took delivery 4th June 2020. Longest I've ever owned the same car. Absolutely love it and see no compelling reason to change it. Warranty expired June 2023 and I haven't extended.
