This is new! I never encountered this myself, and never read about such behavior. Anyone encountered this before?
  1. I get in the car, the car starts as usual.
  2. I shift into DRIVE, the car shifts into drive no problem, BUT IT DOESN"T MOVE when I press the accelerator
  3. I tried the accelerator to over 50% (was pulling out of a tight garage, didn't want to launch it), still nothing, also no errors showing on dash or PCM
  4. Switched to REVERSE - gear indicator reflected it, reverse camera showing, but car is not moving, still no errors
  5. I switch to drive, same problem, except the rear view camera is still showing, so now I'm starting to think, if it does decide to go, which way will it be?
  6. I am able to switch between D-N-R, car not moving in either "gear", still no errors
  7. New problem, I cannot switch to PARK - whenever I hit the "P" button, the read BRAKE text lights up under the instrument cluster, but the car stay in the same gear (tried it with D, N, and R). STILL NO ERRORS OR WARNINGS SHOWING ANYWHERE!
  8. I leave it DRIVE, press the "P" button so at least the BRAKE text indicator is lit up
  9. I turn off the car - finally a first error, it's beeping at me with a red error stating "Please shift into P before exiting"
  10. So I try the P button again, but nothing happens, the car stays in D. It will no longer even move to N or R either (but car is off, PCM is dark, IC is all dark except for the right tube with the ask to shift to P error)
  11. So now I don't know whether it's even safe to exit the car, it will it roll away on me! Thinking I might need to call someone to come chuck the wheel before I can exit the car!
  12. Decided to turn the car back ON. The car automatically shifts itself from D to N on power on (really Porsche?), then I finally get my first real error -a yellow error in right IC tube says "All-wheel drive error. Continued driving possible with adjustment". So I shift to D, the error disappears immediately after car shifts to D. Car drives normally, forwards, backwards, goes in Park no problem. No more error either, I drove it a couple of times since.
So apparently, despite all the anal retentive error throwing, there exists the state where the car is unable to drive or park, but no error will be shown to the driver. Worse, in that state, if you turn off the car, the car screams at the driver to shift into P, yet the P button doesn't do anything.

Has anyone here encountered this yet? Is this new, perhaps in some later updates some engineer who got yelled at for customers complaining about errors decided to suppress the display of errors in order to game some metrics collected over telemetry?

Definitely odd, hopefully just a random computer bug.

Whenever something like this happens I take a video with my phone. That way if I have to take it to the dealership I have evidence vs them having to come back being “unable to replicate error.”

These cars are computers on wheels, when you switch them on they basically boot up and start looking for connected modules ... if one doesn't respond (in time) for whatever reason you can see all kinds of issues.

I've had it happen on my etron, I switched it on and gave a whole series of errors with just about everything from drivetrain to suspension ... so I turn it off and back on again, no error to be seen, drives normal, never came back in the next 2 years of driving the thing.
My guess it's the 12v that doesn't have enough juice to power all modules or just a software bug ... like once in 500 boots my pc doesn't play sound, nothing a reboot doesn't fix.

Forum is filled with issues that went away after locking the car for 15 minutes.

'Video <for dealer and Porsche>, or it didn't happen.' ;)

I’m really glad I had a chance to read this post. If it ever happens to me, I’m not going to freak out, but just turn the damn thing off and see what happens.

That seems to be the solution to a lot of problems! The few small bugs I had so far also were resolved this way 😁

It should shift into Park as soon as you open the door, but that’s under normal circumstances and I wonder if it would have done so in this case as well.

I have a video, plan to show it to the dealer and will upload here as well. I just need to edit it for privacy (cut or blur out PII), brevity (cut irrelevant parts out), and so it doesn't get NSFW rating (mute out some colorful commentary by me ;)). Will do it some time this weekend.

Would you really lock your car and walk away for 15 minutes when it shows it's in DRIVE and the car is beeping rapidly at you showing this?

I wish I tried it. It was in a very tight garage, with little clearance around the car, and I was seriously worried about the car just taking off or rolling away into something (or someone) so I wasn’t going to get out of the car, kept my foot on or just above the brake pedal ready to react. I was actually considering calling someone on the phone to come plug the car in (was in my charging spot still) hoping there was some hard protection against driving while plugged in and put some pieces of wood under tires to keep the car from rolling away (I have wheel chocks, but they were inaccessible as my car is parked blocking those shelves in the garage). Then was going to open the hood and kill 800V just in case (while hoping the car won’t run me over before I cut its power).

My biggest issue is that the software seemed to be in a really FUBR state without apparently being aware of any errors, like it was on drugs, unpredictable.

While I plan to show it to my dealer’s techs, I strongly suspect this will end the same way last time my can refused to move due to an electrical error, then couple of hours later all was well. The dealer found inactive errors, but since they didn’t pop up after clearing them, Porsche said there is nothing actionable. We’ll see.
