When was the last time you pulled up to a gas pump and it didn’t work? If you’re at an EV charging station with about 15% in the “ tank“ it’s a disaster, because, do you have enough charge to get to the next location, and will it be out of order as well?

I think something like this is the current state of the art in owning an electric vehicle, at least in the mid-Atlantic area where I live.

Case in point — yesterday Westfield Mall, Electrify America charging station. Of six charging stations, two are in operation with several cars waiting to charge. Will fights over priority of use break out? Fortunately everybody was courteous. New arrivals pull up to empty towers only to find they do not work. The telephone help line is a joke. You are put on an endless recorded loop. In former days an actual person would answer.

The practical upshot of this travesty is that you needed to reduce effective range by the percentage amount that gives you the assurance that you can go to some other charging station. henceforth, I’ll be looking to charge when i reach about 40% of charge.

This is to say nothing of the anxiety that arises when you do arrive at a charging and wonder what awaits you.

It’s past time that we had an adult, useful way tocharge our vehicles. you know, like gas cars do. Steve

Not an every day occurrence, but I've had plenty of times when a station is being refuelled and cannot be used, or every pump has been in use with queues, or the specific fuel I want isn't available....

First family equipped "long" journey is this Saturday...but looking at Zapp Map it really shouldn't be a problem, aside from getting fleeced at public charge points. But that's a regular occurrence at petrol stations on our major arterial routes!

My road-trip planning process is to locate all the EA sites along the route, include them as favorites in the nav unit, and stop for charging not at the last EA site in range, but at the next to the last EA site in range. This gives me a backup if I am unable to charge the car at that EA site. I'd rather make more charging stops than run the risk of being stranded.

In the 30+ DC fast charge stops I have made, there was only 1 EA site in which I was unable to charge the Taycan at all.
