Yesterday I replaced my front tires on my 4 S at 12,000 miles ( mostly around town ). They were at the wear bars. The tires are all season Eagle Touring 255/55 R19. I had hoped for better mileage. I'm going in for an alignment later this week.

The TPMS initially worked on drive home. On the next drive there was no TPMS data. I switched tire sizes and also filled the tires with air to half load as normal. They were very close from the tire store. Then the TPMS came back.

As a motorcycle rider and some-time racer I'm horrified by this thread. We just get used to doing regular maintenance checks (tires wear, tire pressure, chain, brakes, etc.). I don't understand just driving and not even doing cursory safety checks.
These are high performance vehicles that will kill you (or others) if not maintained.

Come on people!!

I just want to bump this thread up and remind people to take DerekS's advice to check your tires often. I didn't, and this was the result:

I have 19,024 miles on the car.

Wow. Don’t you look at your rear tires just about every time you drive?

That is virtually a slick tyre. If stopped by the police in the UK that is potentially a £2000 fine - per tyre. I check mine regularly to avoid this sort of thing

How would one not hear that ?? And how would one not notice the handling characteristics of that ??

The point is they wore at much lower mileage than we expected them to. Checking the tread depth wasn't even on my radar at 10.5K.

Obviously I keep a pretty good eye on them now.

I had to flatbed mine as well when this happened. Like you it wore to the cords (and failure) on the inside.

Fair.
For reference my motorcycle tires last somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 miles for road use.
Lotus Elise was about 5,000 for rears for road use.
Maserati was about 7,000 for rears
Obv track time drops that significantly.

I'm assuming that this is a lot of folks first time with performance car then?

I'd be over the moon with 10k on a Taycan.

Yup, I checked when you originally posted your thread, and occasionally since.

I did not notice any handling or noise until it started to leak. This car just goes back and forth to work.

This is not my first performance car, nor does it see track. I currently have a 718 Spyder, and a 981 GT4 before that (that saw regular track duty), and a number of 987 Caymans before that, all seeing track duty.

This Taycan just takes me back and forth to work, and the occasional road trip. I checked my tires very closely when DerekS had his issue, and they still looked like new.
