Any advice on dealing with this? The clear coat is chipping off the black part of the wheels.

I think the car wash people usually use quite a strong detergent (acid based maybe?) on the wheels to make brake dust easier to clean off. Maybe that is weakening it?

Don't ask the dealership. I doubt you'll get it under warranty and they may impound your car until you replace all 4 wheels and tyres.

Hi Jimmy, sorry to wake up this old thread. I have the exact same issue on my wheels. Did you ever find a solution or reason for it? I mentioned it to the dealer as they are doing recalls and service on my car and the service manager will look into it. I'll let you know what the say when I get it back.

If the paint started to peel of the car bodywork, then it could argued that it is a warranty issue, so I would say it should be the same for wheels. The paint on the wheels should be strong enough to cope with a power washer. The only caveat to that, is if it was chipped by a stone, which has damaged the paint leading to a weak spot that water can get under.

Good luck with getting it resolved.
