A few days ago this message popped up on my ‘21 Taycan CT Turbo. PCM is ‘restricted’ indeed: stereo no longer works, nor do the Parking Assist cameras and a few other functions as well. Did a search on this forum and elsewhere on the internet, but could not see any other reports of this exact thing happening - though apparently it’s not unknown with other VAG products: the ‘component protection’ is an anti-theft scheme that is supposed to stop pilfered components from being installed in other cars. Similar warnings apparently sometimes pop up on other VAG brands, but it looked like they typically cleared themselves out after a restart. No such luck here, I’ve rebooted the PCM multiple times but no dice.

Anyone else experienced this issue, and if so how was it resolved? I’m tempted to disconnect the 12V battery, but worried that may cause other and more complicated issues.

Not heard of that one. If it doesn't self-clear OR same issue when using your other key then try the 12V disconnect for 5 mins OR the PCM reset (2 fingers top right corner). You should be ok with either method but looks like you need to try the 12V disconnect. Failing that its off to the dealer I'm afraid.

Yup, the PCM reboot I was referring to was using the two fingers up in right corner, which I’ve tried a couple of times with no luck. As for ‘other key’ - I don’t have any yet…

Will try the 5 min 12V disconnect, that should force a full ‘reboot’ of everything connected to the CAN bus.

What is/how do you do the 12v disconnect? What does it remedy?

Disconnecting the 12V battery (temporarily) is a step that can be taken to reset various features in the car which may have become locked out or malfunctioning in some way. The disconnect is only for a very short time (5 mins max) to avoid losing various settings.

Has been used to resolve HUD issues (no display - https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/head-up-display-just-disappeared.7307/#post-114619), PCM issues and so on.

Check the Owner's manual / Porsche Good to Know App for instruction on how to do this. If you really aren't sure then don't attempt it and take to your dealer.

Disconnecting worked fine and resolved the issue. No more error message, all PCM functionality is present and accounted for.

I did so before I saw the post above, so the car was actually disconnected for a good 45 minutes (had a meeting in the middle of the operation). So far I haven't noticed any loss of settings, the clock was incorrect initially but reset itself as soon as I had LTE coverage. Did have to recalibrate the parking brake, which is easy enough - PCM pops up a prompt asking you to step on the brake for a few seconds, that's it. Everything works as before this whole thing started.

Interestingly this popped up on my Taycan just now. I noticed the car was in privacy mode (on the app not the car) which is not uncommon. So I went to see if it had done it by itself again (- as it did 2 days ago) maybe no coincidence that this morning my Andersen power supply unit showed a Power error (red lights and asking to be reset) and the car also showed a red light on the socket although it was charged to max 85% anyway. I Reset the power unit and that’s fine. So I can only think it was some kind of protection for a power supply issue.
Car doesn’t need charging but will test again and hope it’s all ok.
no issues on the car at the moment. The error disappeared as quick as it came.
