Hello fellow detailing enthusiasts,

I got way too ambitious and decided to do my own PPF job. HUGE amount of work but I actually kind of enjoyed it. I've now run into an issue though that I'm hoping one of you can help me out with. It's in several places but I'm posting a picture of the most difficult one. This is the edge of the driver's door and the trim. The film is tucked under the trim but wasn't adhering well so dirt got under there. Any advice on how to get it out without ruining the whole piece of PPF? It seems like the best way would be to remove the trim piece but I've never done that before. If your advice is to remove the trim, I'd appreciate some tips on how to remove it without damaging it.

For window trim removal, I expect that the trim pops off similar to other pcars. You can google for 991.2 window trim removal, and it'll be the first result. I've a similar job to do this week on the driver side to put on PPF. I intend on lifting up the trim but not remove it, flushing out any dirt. If you've a micro-squeegee, you might be able to fold back the not adhering pieces enough, clean it off with slip, and then re-tack.

The best my installer told me was to use a product called Rapid Remover and a Q-Tip. I spray a little on the tip then work it back and forth on the area. It actually works.

Rapid Remover is an adhesive remover. Does the PPF stick back down afterwards?

I have all the tools, including edge prep adhesive if I need it. The question was more about handling the lifting than the dirt removal. I just don't want to damage the trim but I'd rather lift & tuck than trim back the film. Thanks for your help!

If purely about lifting the film, steam it and use the hard micro squeegee to help pry it from the edge. Careful, I accidentally ripped my rocker panel film when I was too agressive and impatient with the lifting to remove debris. Steam and patience.

Yup I did the same on the rear door.

Thanks. I tested with the curved area by the back window because it's an area I'm ok with trimming back if this cleanup doesn't work. Depending on how that works out (I have it taped down & haven't lifted it yet), I'll decide what to do with the door. Good tip on the steam.

Just checked the trim this evening. The door trims are friction fit. Just grab either end of the door trim and gently lift. Use a plastic pry tool as an aid if you need to.
