Hello,

I ordered a Taycan 4s and I am expecting delivery next week so I decided to contact an electrician to install a charger at home. However, this is my first EV and I'm honestly a little lost. So most of the electricians that I contacted in the area told me they will install a 3-phase 32 amps socket as that is the standard here. They also told me that the 3-phase 32 amp installation will give me slightly faster times (about an hour faster) than the single-phase 40 amp that the charger is rated for.

Can anyone please help me out on what's best to install? Please keep in mind this is my first EV and I have little experience with EV chargers.

Thank you.

With 380V 3 Phase 32 Amp you can charge at 22KW but if you don't have the option (in italy is an option) of 22kw AC charger in your car you will charge at 11 KW... so 380V 3phase 16A is enough.

Oh, good to know. So I will proceed with the 3 phase 32 Amp. Sadly, I did not spec the 22kW option as I didn't know these things beforehand. Thank you for prompt reply and help.

I would go with the recommendation from the electrician. Even if you do not have the option to charge at 22 kW at present, the cost for the cabling is not much and you will have quite a future proof set up. And you will not need to do any new cabling or fuses etc in future.

Go for it

Yeah future proofing is definitely something I want. I just wanted to ensure it's the best setup for the Taycan as none of the electricians have any prior experience with the Taycan charger.

Appreciate the help.

This is right, i’ve made the same, i answered you only for advise that you will not recharge more rapidly than 16A... only this.
