Congrats and many years of driving bliss. I do hope you have an opportunity to get to the track.

Nothing feels as good as perfectly executing an upshift from 2nd to 3rd at 6000rpm. Or blipping the pedal during downshifts. I've got my 2008 R8 MT for that. I'm lucky that can experience the best of both worlds! Also, I can fit the dog, kids, skis and clubs in the Taycan :muscle:

My ICE car uses 8500rpm and I have been executing up and downshifts for over 50 years, heel and toe downshifts with a dog engaged gearbox are the hard ones.

But as an engineer it is just a compromise

About a year ago my search landed a new 2024 PTS Voodoo Blue GTS. It’s an amazing car and I got an equally amazing deal, but…

I decided to trade it in for a 992.1 GT3 in part because I missed the joy of operating a manual sports car and the GT3 is “the” car for that by Porsche.

Perhaps one day I’ll return to an electric Porsche, maybe J2.1 or J2.2 ?

I want to say thanks to this group for the wealth of Taycan information and I wish you all the best.

Congrats ! Just picked up a new toy too…keeping the Taycan as I love it and couldn’t stomach getting hammered on the trade in -

My perspective is a bit different. I gave up manual transmissions years ago. There is nothing that can match a gear shift at 8800 rpm in GT3. I love going down a straight side by side and see the other fellow fall back a car length on his/her shift. It always brings a smile to my face.

Drag racing isn't a thing here so not something I have ever or would ever experience, but the loss of acceleration during a manual shift is entirely dependant on the skill of its driver whereas the gain from a dual clutch is skill free.

Current F1 cars have developed to have a gapless shift with the timing of the shift and the torsional stiffness of the shafting being matched such that the dog clutch moves during the time the momentarily unloaded shafts unwind and re-engages at the moment that the deflection matches the new torque level giving a gapless transmission of torque. Not as good as a CVT but faster and more reliable than manual.
Unfortunately this is entirely down to the clever design and implementation of the gearbox and controller and requires zero driver skill.

It is one of the reasons overtaking is difficult in F1, back in the day a lot of skill was needed to get the best out of gearbox and throttle, and missed gears gave overtaking opportunities. In a modern car my Mum would be able to change gear as well as Lewis Hamilton.

Congratulations!
Wishing you happy miles!

I still do like my Taycan cuz it smokes noisy supercars seemingly effortless.
It's a different style of grace, mature, advanced, yet simple, efficient, effective and highly demotivating for supercar drivers.
They don't even want to race me anymore...
Did I mention my car carried four adults?

911 GT3?
Meh.
I prefer a 5.2l V10 @ 8500 rpm.
If you make that much noise you should have a form that goes with it: intimidating, a modern 911 doesn't have that, a Huracan does.
I've always been a fan of Lamborghini.
Their V12s and V10s are masterpieces.
Running an engine like that over 9000rpm is simply ridiculous.

I don't like a modern 911, too big, boring design, you can't even see the engine anymore...
Had a 992 C4S for two months but I was glad I got my Taycan back.
It almost felt outdated due to the vibrations, gear shift bumbs, lack of linear powerband, smell, noise, comfort.

I do like the old 911 Turbo though, love that shape, love that interior, simple, elegant but very dangerous, love the 80's but that's a personal thing.
For now, I love my Taycan, best car I've ever owned.
I don't even know what to buy next...

A 6spd manual 992 GT3 is a sublime driving experience.

Straight line speed isn’t special anymore, a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a 3 second car ;)

I am absolutely open to another electric Porsche, I think Active Ride is a game changer IMO. Electric cars are evolving fast both hardware and software. Let’s hope some stability comes to the market.

Looks like Porsche San Francisco!

You had less than 1k miles on your Taycan?!
Good eye! Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to drive it all that much but it was a ticking time bomb of depreciation blessing. Had I driven it 5k miles, I would of lost at least 10-15k more in the trade deal.

Nah, switch off ESP and see what the better car is: a Huracan or a GT3...
Nowadays, supercars are too much controlled by computers so even your grandmother can drive one.
Still, it's great to own a GT3 and I wish you happy miles! ?
