I have a 2020 4s, and have been relatively lucky with few minor issues, and no major ones. Most of my complaints center around the random rattles and squeaks that creep up over time. Most of these I expect are fixed in later model years.

I generally try and avoid the first model year of any car model or refresh, but made an exception for the Taycan. I wish I had waited, because the Taycan definitely felt unfinished when it launched. I will echo the caution of others on the software, especially deploying a new stack like they are on Macan. It was pretty bad on Taycan, and I have still yet to see a major OTA update for my car; the dealer had to push the latest software for me.

Will the Macan EV be better? I hope so but I'm not about to be an early adopter again.

I have a 2021 Turbo S and my biggest issue is that kids take photos of the car all the time… looking, pointing, no longer living under the radar. Like a celebrity. Don’t recommend getting one of these.

Compared to the fella that had their Taycan 4 months at the shop, sounds pretty sweet! ?

I’ll actually be in Krakow in a month, they have a ton of EVs there (lots of i3 to my surprise).

I live an hour south of Krakow… although in California at the moment, for the next 6 weeks. Only one other Taycan in the town that I live in.

I leased a 2020 4S in September 2020.
It was a launch car, one of the first out of the factory.
I have had absolutely no problems with the vehicle, except those of my own making.
I punctured a radiator following a gravel truck,
I scraped off one of the jack points on a curb while in the lower chassis setting(I forgot to put it back in to normal height,
I picked up a screw in the sidewall of my rear tire and required replacement.
I have driven it year round in Upstate NY, and now have 23+k miles on it.
I easily get ranges in the neighborhood of the high 200 miles, and have had a high of 316 miles on the guessometer at 100%
I bought out the lease in September 2023, bought an 8 year Porsche insurance policy, and plan to drive it until 2030. By the way, Porsche Syracuse has done a great job supporting the vehicle.
I know many folks have had misc. problems, but I have not seem them...yet.

without taking too much of a bath on the devaluation.
It might be a worthwhile exercise to think about whether you would derive enough personal utility out of those three years with the vehicle to make you forget about this goal, or at least chuck it a fair ways down the priority list. If not, try reading a handful of random threads here that come up in searches for "depreciation" and try that exercise again.

Are you saying I should not worry about the devaluation and enjoy the car for longer than 3 years? Or did I completely misunderstand your comment?

I'm saying that if you can't let go of the concern over devaluation, now is probably a pretty bad time to buy an electric Porsche, and that's probably not going to change much any time soon.

How long you keep the car is something that only you can answer, but I went into this eyes wide open. I drove the same ICE car for 25 years, telling myself that I would keep doing that until there was an EV that I really wanted. I wanted the very last model year of the first-generation Taycan, because I believe that final years of model runs are more likely to be more reliable than others. I wanted it built with specific and unusual requirements.

So I probably am one of the financially stupidest posters on this entire forum. I paid MSRP for a car that completely ignores every single rule of maintaining value: choose trim levels over options, get popular colors, everybody loves leather interiors, &c.

I love it to death and wouldn't change a thing. But if I was looking two or three years out, and wondering how much residual value it would have, because by then I'd be ready for a change, I don't think I would be able to honestly say that.

So I'm just urging you to make sure that you can see yourself being happy, one way or another, even if there is a ton of devaluation.

That makes a ton of sense, thank you for clarifying.

Part of me, call it the responsible side, thinks I don’t need to replace my 18 months old MME. If I were to trade it in today (or say 6 months from now), I’d take a huge loss given the car market right now (even more so with EVs). It’s a very fine car and fun to drive, although I wish it accelerated quicker and were more agile but it’s good (and paid for).
I bought it when I did because I wanted to get the $7.5k credit before it would be more difficult to qualify, when people were basically making money selling their used cars. Of course, now it’s the complete opposite.

Another part of me has always wanted a Porsche, the Macan checks a lot of the boxes I have and then there’s YOLO. Who knows if I’ll be able to afford/drive one a year or 10 from now? I would like to think I would be happy with it and keep it for 5 or 10 years, but realistically, that probably won’t be the case. Devaluation becomes a real factor.

Considering:
a) the market is a mess and EVs lose half their value in like 12 months
b) tech is changing rapidly, both for batteries and platforms (PPE barely here and already on the way out for SSP)

It doesn’t seem like *buying* makes a lot of sense. *Leasing* becomes more appealing in this scenario, because I’ll know exactly how much these say 36 months will cost me and by then, tech will hopefully be a little more stable. At that point, the devaluation isn’t a factor - the car could devaluate 90% even and I’d be ok.

I was also going through the links kindly shared by @Tooney and they were eye opening for sure - keeping in mind the natural forum bias.

This poll was very interesting - especially with over 400 votes.
Wish it included how many of these were for MY20 vs MY21 or MY22.

People keep saying 2020 was the worst; but many people with 2020 models had no issues, me included. Usually people with issues are the loudest, while people with no issue never point it out.

EVs, like all cars, can have issues. It's all luck.

When i read here 4 months waiting time for a part... i have massive doubts, but yea. I've never heard of that in europe.

My car has been 2 times to porsche, which involved the 2 years maintenance x2, in which the big software updates were also applied. I suspect they might have done other things to the car also, and not document it (brake software was updated i suspect, but nothing documented;)
