Ah ok.

The car has a built in LTE data service that will take care of this automatically and supports OTA, all Porsche Connect services, Apple Music etc. You do not need to purchase anything in addition such as a data package.

You can also access the car remotely via the same service and you simply need to download the My Porsche App which is free.

Interim why not download the Porsche Good To Know App and start reading up on all of this stuff and more. Better to be prepared than not!
Thanks for the info. If it's anything like the LTE on my phone, it's not going to get any signal to download a thing while it's in the garage. I'll give the app a once over. Thanks for the tip.

Not sure what you are asking for. The Taycan has no way to connect to any external WiFi. You can subscribe to a data package for a Porsche Super premium price, but that will only give you a hotspot in your Taycan. No external WiFi unless you live in Russia
finally somebody who knows the reality that you CANNOT connect your Taycan to any external WiFi unless you live in Russia. Really no reason to. As soon as you move out of your garage, you will connect and get downloads.

Yeah that can be a problem but you will get updates whilst on the move so don't over think or stress on this.

Updates are few and far between and don't cover anything major to this point - generally map, weather, calendar and news updates.

In the U.S., you can use a home "cell spot" to create cellular coverage in a dead spot using your home internet connection. (This is not to be confused with cellular hotspots which do the opposite by providing WiFi via a cellular connection.)

Did you ever consider that you have to use My Porsche before leaving your house to heat/cool/precondition the car? This is essential and is the main reason why one would want reception on the car in the garage.

The AT&T micro-cell no longer an option, as 3G is gone. A cellular signal booster, like this:

can be a good option, if you have cellular coverage outside of the garage. The principle is to have an antenna somewhere where there is coverage, and run a wire into the garage, like this:

Some day, if/when Porsche manages to build me a car, I will probably end up doing exactly this, so that I can connect to the car from the phone app while the car is in the garage. Today we only have Teslas, so I just installed an access point for them, but with Taycan, unless I end up hacking the Conn Box, a cellular repeater will be needed.

Hi Backslashed, thanks! It's taken a while to get to the nub of the issue which you have kindly summarised as "before leaving your house to heat/cool/precondition the car" - that is precisely why a viable signal inside the remote garage is needed!

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes….

My iPhone shows that there is an internet connection with my Taycan when I get in the car. However, the phone will not accept e-mails or send/receive WhatsApp messages, nor will it go to websites.

I therefore have to turn the internet off to make it work on 4G. And then turn it back on when I leave the car.

Is this supposed to happen, or might I be doing something wrong ?

The car only offers a WiFi hotspot to share with devices but does not provide internet access UNLESS you paid extra for the monthly data package (don't do it!) - better to share your phone as a hotspot if you want that type of connectivity.

The in car hotspot also allows you to connect your mobile device to the PCM calendar for synchronization if you need to do this but that's all.

Separate to this is the car's own LTE connection used exclusively for Porsche / Porsche Connect data services.

Thanks for that. Bit of a nuisance then, eh ?

I never have the hotspot enabled in the car as it is useless in my case and sounds like you should do the same.

To disable go into the PCM and disable to avoid the faff you currently experience.

Porsche Good To Know App will help - page below talks through activation but you'll also see how to disable.

Apart from the US (or Russia where the Taycan can connect to an external wifi hotspot) where you can install a home micro cell as an extension to your home WiFi (this was covered last year in the forum if you search) you can of course use Timers / Profiles and set a pre-heat / cool etc via the PCM - not ideal but no coverage no app access, simples.

I have good coverage in my garage but as the car nods off to sleep My Porsche App / Web access is still crap and won't wake up the car 6 times out of 10 - I've learned to live without this particular convenience if I want an unplanned pre-heat / cool.
