While I was driving, the instrument cluster started flickering and then completely shut off. Everything else worked fine including two other screens. HUD worked too.

After I parked and left the car locked for a while, I tried to start again, and the instrument cluster also started by flickering and then shut off. Other screens worked fine.

and an error message in the center screen says “Instrument Cluster defective”. Since the instrument cluster screen still turned on and flickered, I think the screen itself works. I suspect the connection between the screen and the battery is flaky.

Haven't seen this problem before. Maybe unique to MY25? Keep us posted on this, including if the problem solves or does not solve itself by parking and locking the car and starting it up again an hour or so later. Good luck!

It is different from all of them. The first two had the instrument cluster showing the error message. And the third one said it went “temporarily black”.

The symptom on my car is that it went completely dark, it shut off completely. The error message I got was shown on the center infotainment screen.

I parked and locked the car. Went out for dinner last night. After I returned (well over 45 mins), I tried and started it again. Still the screen was flickering and then shuts off completely. Then the center infotainment screen says something like PCM only works when battery was sufficiently charged. So that makes me suspect the instrument cluster screen was not properly connected to the battery or the connection was flaky, because all other screens and systems worked fine.

and this morning (after the whole night) everything worked fine. The instrument cluster screen worked. Like nothing happened last night. And the error message went away. It feels bizarre.

I went on 2 hour and 30 mins drive and DC charged and everything worked fine. Except the DC charger stopped at 81% but I don’t think it’s related. Reconnected the dispenser and it started charging again.

still gonna ask the dealer to check it out before making the longish road trip to Nova Scotia next weekend. Will keep posted.

Dropped off the car at dealer yesterday.

I wonder if the tech can access the log when that happened because there's no error message and the instrument cluster is working fine at the moment.

A little update on this issue:

The dealer found an error code and cleared it. Obviously it was before my road trip. And nothing went wrong with my road trip.

However I was driving down to the cape yesterday and it happened again. A bit different though:

We parked the car and went to eat dinner very quickly, just some fast food. When we came back and started the car, the instrument cluster worked again. No error reported at all.

And it went dead again after about 20-30 mins.

I firmly believe it is a software issue now. Some weird combination of conditions will trigger this. And a reset solves it.

Yesterday, it is probably the same combination of conditions. Though I'm still trying to figure out.

Not driving the car for 4-5 days before a long-ish trip with Apple Carplay Navigation?
The salty air on Cape Cod? (probably not, Nova Scotia is just as salty)

At this point I don't think Porsche dealer can do much more than I do since I don't have a reliable way to reproduce this. And the slow software development and update cycle means it won't get fixed any time soon.

Luckily everything else worked fine and HUD worked.

Just wanted to share a quick update on my 2025 Taycan instrument cluster issue that first started back in October 2024 at only 800 miles. After a year of intermittent blackouts, the dealership finally found a hard fault.

Note that those intermittent blackouts of the instrument cluster never had a fault or error message popping up in the car. But about two weeks ago, it happened again but with a hard fault. And it wouldn't go back to normal after two days (it'd turn on when starting the car but black out again after driving for a few minutes).

* Diagnosis: Technician identified a failure and Fault B198E96 (Internal Fault) and Fault EA0001 (Instrument Cluster ? Internal Error). I don't know what they are and couldn't find any references online.
* Failed Attempt: They first tried the WRV3 software update / recall, but the cluster still had no function.
* Resolution: Performed a full hardware replacement of the Combi-Instrument cluster. Luckily it only took two days for the new instrument cluster to arrive.
* Time in Shop: The car was out of service for 13 business days for this visit alone. Several of the technicians were out for a few days due to flu / sickness breakout .... It took them almost a week to just get to my taycan.

If you’re seeing that "Defective" warning, don't let them just flash software and send you home. In my case, it was a confirmed hardware failure that required a brand-new unit.

I hate it when they clear codes and just hope it goes away.

It just delays getting to the fix.

Thank you! I hope Porsche fully documents this problem so it will get a proper fix for someone else who also runs into this. And for anyone who gets this in the future, don't believe it would be a software fix!

I don't want to jinx it but this has been the only problem so far ;) compared with a lot of taycan owners here I think I'm lucky haha
