I stopped to charge at an Ionity Charging station yesterday and was unable to charge the car. It bought up an message on the Ionity Charger which was "Charging Error. Communication Problem. Car should be turned off.". Needless to say, the car was turned off and locked.

Tried multiple charging stations multiple times and got the same error. Spent hours on the phone to Ionity and Porsche. Neither could help. Ended up driving somewhere else to slow charge and complete the journey. Ended up wasting around 3 hours.

I'm convinced it's a problem with the car, but don't know what it might be. I used the rfid card that comes with the car.

Wondering if anyone else might have exerienced the same problem and/or know how to solve it.

Out of interest, which charging port did you use on your car? As Drivers side is AC only and passengers side is configured for AC & DC

IONITY is CCS so it has to be the passenger side.

I've seen someone mention something about direct charge on this forum. I wonder if that might be the problem. Can anyone tell me how and where you activate direct charge?

Direct Charge is automatic on DC charging. IONITY is DC so should have just worked. I've only used once, I used the connect app and scanned the charger QR code, the authorisation happened within 10 seconds and the charger then displayed a message to plug into car. Plugged in did a bit of communication and started charging. All very smooth for my first time at the charger.

Gogs, do you have keyless go on your car? It's telling me the car should be turned off and I wonder if keyless go might be causing the charger to think the car is turned on.

I’ve got comfort access. Can’t remember if I turned the car off. Definitely did not lock before charging. Very see less for me, but only done it once.

Hmm okay, Problems continued yesterday. It's definitely the car. Ended up having to get the car towed off a French motorway to Dijon yesterday because it wouldn't charge at the high speed chargers and it caused the 50 Kw Ionity charger I tried to use instead to blow a fuse and stop working altogether. Now at Porsche Centre Dijon waiting for a software update to WLG2. Will hopefully fix the problem !

So the software upgrade didn't fix the problem. It seems to be an issue with the DC charging port. Now going in to Porsche Milan on Monday !

completely different issue with IONITY charging stations. i Arrived at the charging station for the first time yesterday. It sits right across from the Tesla super chargers at the same highway stop. out of 4 chargers 2 were down and the 2 working had one with the touch screen broken and could only charge at half pace and the other had some internal problem and could only charge at a quarter speed...... the Tesla charger bank had 8 charging posts of the latest kind (v3) all working perfectly...... both were apparently put into service about one month ago........luckily i was the only one charging on the IONITY side....... if this is what is to come its pretty worrying and sad.........

Audi étron driver here, had the same issues. The clue is: these ionity cables are very heavy. If you just plug them in the communication sometimes doesn't work as it should. You should really push the cable in the socket, that creates better contact during communication. Once it recognizes the vehicle, it'
s OK and you can leave the cable hanging. I think this is mostly an issue with older taycan and etrons... Just watch the instruction video from ionity, they stress the importance of this

Hi Evan. Having the same problems. Does it persists with your car or the reason was found?

Just had my MY22 CT4S towed today on the way back from my first trip. Communication error… the other cars had no problem with the same IONITY chargers. Only had the car for 2 weeks so I consider selling it now … can’t imagine having to face the same issue on random trips. My wife is so p…d off to have to ride back home in a taxi. Too bad it was an amazing ride for a couple of weeks.
