I picked up my Dolomite silver Turbo today - just stunning.

I asked the dealer about using IONITY chargers as I knew about the discounted rate and he said I have to use the card to get this reduced rate. I said I thought I’d seen other people say they’ve used the app and got the discount but he said no, it definitely has to be with the card.

Can anyone confirm or deny this please?

The discounted rate is from using your Porsche Charging Service account. You will get the rate when using any of the "channels" that the services supports:
  1. Porsche Charging Service RFID card
  2. MyPorsche app
  3. Plug & Charge from the car (after once using RFID card to activate).
You will not get the lower rate if you use the IONITY app or use a payment card at an IONITY pedestal directly.

He / she / they don't know what they are talking about. Both paths work.

Stunned that after 3 years of the Taycan being on sale that dealership knowledge remains woefully below par.

Thanks guys, appreciate the replies. I thought this was the case, but he was adament!

So to use an Ionity charger with the app do I just select the QR code option?

I've recently found the App doen't recognise the QR code on Ionity chargers and will only work when the card is held up to the reader. Don't know why and it is at more than one charging site.

Hi Marsh, yup, you can do that from within the app I believe but I’d recommend plug and charge as the easiest route. You’ll need to ensure it’s enabled in the PCM under the charging icon and it’s as simple as plugging an IONITY charger in and waiting. It’ll take a little longer than you might be comfortable with and will go from the welcome screen on the IONITY pedestal to “setting up communication with car” and then to Charging (You’ll probably hear a clunk from the nearby electronics in the big green boxes which is usually a pre-cursor to a successful plug and charge handshake) and away you go. Just disconnect when you’re done and the transaction should appear in your account on the app. Sometimes it doesn’t appear at all if you’re lucky!

I’ve only ever used the Porsche app with no issue. As described, scan the QR code, plug in and start charging. It’s not obvious to find where it is in the app though.

The IONITY chargers near me (Skelton Lake on the M1) frequently don’t work with any cards so app is the only option

In theory. But for some reason IONITY is really bad at putting the correct QR codes on the right chargers. If it doesn't work, its very likely you've activated another pedestal at the site! I've got caught out with this in both Ireland and the UK.

You are generally better using the RFID card or Plug & Charge which I use 99% of the time at IONITY (if your car supports it).

As others have said, first time you charge use the Porsche rfid card. On future uses just plug in and it will recognise the car and start charging, it takes a good minute or so to start so bear with and don't for get to check Plug and Charge in car under the Charging menu. You will see the bill in My Porsche App under Account/ Charging Service..... occasionally it doesn't charge you if you are lucky :)

So I have to use the card the very first time I charge? And then only after that can I use the app or plug and charge?

Apart from home charging I basically have only used Ionity. Now we also have a good network of Ionity chargers in Finland.
I think using the RFID card is super easy. It always works. Have driven many times from Stockholm to Austria so quite familiar with Ionity. Great chargers and great price.
Personally I am not a fan of adding more apps to my phone ?.

I have never used card. Plug and charge worked first time at Ionity.

Just try it without the card but ensure P&C is enabled on your car first.

I don't recall having to use the card once first but that was 2 years ago when I last used Ionity and things may have changed since then.

The app has been updated this week so make sure you have the latest version too.
