So I bought a used 2022 Taycan 4S ~3 weeks ago. Love the car. It came with PPF over the front 1/3rd of the vehicle - full hood, front bumper, front posts up to the roof, nothing on the doors or rear panels. There is some superficial bubbling at the edges under the hood line and around the hood emblem.

Car had less than 4k miles when purchased, single owner. Based on some of the edges I think this is factory/OEM PPF. Wondering if anyone is able to confirm this, and if anyone has experience with Porsche PPF if so - if/when I can expect to have to replace it etc. Also I know it needs a wash =] Thanks!

It looks like a dealer install. It's a horrible job

Porsche PPF is just like any other PPF. There are only a few manufacturers of it so it's not specific to them.

In 2022, when I was ordering, I noticed PPF on the (UK) showroom Taycans. I was assured by the salesman that they were factory fitted.

The only bits 'missed', which is why I noticed it, were the corners - such as on the bonnet/hood. The edges were all well tucked in and invisible.

Great wheels and colour/color, BTW.😉

Yea, not a huge fan of the cut job, but it didn't affect the price so I will roll with it til it needs replacing.

There is no PPF applied at the factory as far as I know, every dealer does their own, and in Europe you usually have to pay for it.
At least that is the information from my German dealer.

My Turbo S was pretty horrible. Where they cut it, they cut right into the clearcoat etc.

The Porsche dealership I bought from did not do PPF and did not recommend the factory PPF either. If I was to add it they had a local guy they recommended.

My understanding was the dealership optioned PPF with cars they configured to protect them from showroom traffic.

I have never seen it on a configurator, or been quoted for it, but it does seem to have been a 'thing', in the past at least.

There are three levels in case of the Porsche distribution.
1. The factory
2. The importer
3. The individual dealership

AFAIK it's not a factory thing, but it could be on importer level, which is why there are different experiences depending on country.

Found an older thread with similarly installed PPF. Looks like pre-cut template stuff. Certainly could have done a better job with the edges but oh well, I didn't pay for it and it'll do for a while. Thanks yall.

@pjg03d Redwood City Porsche here in the San Francisco Bay area, a high volume dealer, outsources PPF application. My understanding from this dealer, is that PPF is typically not done by dealers themselves, but done under contract with local providers.

Those providers may be offered a bay at the dearer if the dealer has a closed bay. A closed bay is required to prevent dust/particles from becoming a fixture of your under-PPF finish.

I did extensive local PPF provider research and found the skills, materials, and dedication (read tenure of the professional) vary quite a bit.
