Hi, everyone - I plan to consolidate my 2023 Panamera Turbo S and 2023 Taycan GTS into a a single new car, but would appreciate some advice.
The Panamera is luxurious, unbeatable for a long drive, and sounds glorious with the V8, but the hesitant throttle, less sharp handling dynamics, and vastly less talkative steering relative to my GTS suggest that, if going from 2 to 1, I should go with a Taycan. Nothing is better in terms of daily-driving in traffic, and I have a 911 for fun weekend drives.
My plan is to get a J1.2 Turbo or Turbo S. The Taycan GT is a potential candidate, but I’m leaning in favor of the less extreme Turbo trims. I thought about the new GTS, but the performance step-up is too modest relative to the large $ investment required to upgrade. If I’m going to do this, I want a leap in performance.
Frustratingly, though, there is a paucity of in-depth reviews of the J1.2 Turbo and Turbo S models. The Turbo GT sucked up all the oxygen at the top of the range, and the mid-cycle-refresh reviews tended to give superficial treatment to the difference between the trims. None of my local dealers has both cars available to test drive.
Does anyone have real seat time in the J1.2 Turbo and Turbo S? (I’d definitely tick the box for the active suspension, FWIW.) Is the performance increment between the two significant and obvious while driving? It appears that the Turbo S has a larger inverter than the Turbo, allowing for significantly more torque, albeit at the cost of some efficiency. If anyone has a 2025+ Turbo S, what kind of real-world range are you getting? If someone here has time in a J1.1 GTS and a J1.2 Turbo or Turbo S, I’d love to hear whether you get the same tactile steering and sharp turn-in that you get in the GTS.
I’m considering the Taycan GT. It does have some pluses. Depreciation on any of these cars will be savage, but for the TGT perhaps somewhat less so. And there’s something undeniably fun about getting the monster version. But I don’t love the restricted options on the TGT and that its 900-amp inverter eats into the already-modest boot / trunk space. Also, the optics are a touch aggressive for what will be my daily driver, parking at work, etc. But if anyone here compared the Turbo (S) to the TGT and thought the latter significantly better / more exciting, then I’d be all ears.
Thank you, all!
