For the past couple of weeks the fan near the passenger front wheel has become super loud when charging at home. Not only that, the garage feels like I’m inside a convection oven because it gets extremely hot, to the point where I’m not charging at home because I’m worried what the heat will do to this confined space. Anyone else noticed this? I’m considering installing a mini split but that’s at least 1-2 weeks away.

Assuming this is during AC charging it is definitely unusual. Normally you would only expect to hear the fans during >150 kW DC charging and then only when the battery itself is very warm.

Usually due to either high ambient outside temperatures or after a high-speed run and then stopping to immediately DC charge.

Here is what info would be helpful:
  1. What temperature is your battery (from the dashboard) when AC charging and the fans are on?
  2. What is the ambient air temperature?
  3. Is this after a high-speed drive immediately beforehand?

@gnr3312 , what is the garage temperature before you start charging? What is your charging speed (power in kW)?

I’ve tried charging at different times, but typically I’ll plug it in around 10 pm for an overnight charge inside the garage after it’s been inside for at least 3-4 hours. I’ve checked the battery temperature and it reads 91F to 94F but inside the garage it is reading around 97F. I live in Austin and it is hot during the day, we are about to hit a streak of over 100F days so I’ve stopped charging inside for now, and use an EA station on the way in.

I use a Tesla universal wall charger so the max it reads inside the car is 8.8 kW

I have a similar experience on hot days. The car should manage the charge rate to keep heat from exceeding the inverter and cooling system limits. I have had the same fan replaced on two Taycans though when they were damaged. Yours doesn't sound damaged to me. Mine made an obvious loud playing-card-in-bicycle-spokes style of rattle.

I live in Dallas and have been experiencing the same exact thing during our heatwave. I’ve been leaving my garage door open during charging since my garage is in the rear of my house and fenced in (safety). I have also recently experienced my A/C blowing barely cool air after charging or after being parked outside in the hot temps. The only way I’ve been able to fix it is to stop the car, power it off, lock the doors, unlock the doors, and start it again. I’m assuming the battery hot enough that the cooling system is prioritizing the battery over the A/C. I need to take it in to find if this is normal since my warranty is up in a couple months.

I have a Taycan buddy in Dallas I've checked with. Will report back when I hear.

Probably normal though, the heat wave is bad.

alternatively, all of you have the car in sport plus while charging; which force enables the fan at 100%

But if the battery is close to 40 degrees Celsius; it will start the fans while charging, no matter what.

and the fans are loud, yes

95F ambient temp here and if charging during the day the fans will run while AC charging at a mere 5.3kwh. I’m actually happy that this happens because that means the BMS is doing its job.

I’ve even left the car sit for hours before charging and still does it. Well I’m glad I’m not the only one but it is a bit surprising. I’m installing a mini split in a week to condition my garage because I can’t have my garage door open (I live outside Austin city limits in the hill country and just two days ago there was a rattlesnake on my driveway).

At least it's running.
That's good, especially in a hot environment.
Always check if fans are not stuck cuz due to a design flaw debris can get between the motor and fan.
Also check the other side (motor cooling).
