I've had nails and screws in tires before, but never one like this where it appears to have barely punctured the tire below the surface of the shoulder and is visible as a lump just under the sidewall. No noticeable decrease in air pressure yet, but definitely a problem!

I have an appointment to take it in on Tuesday to repair or replace it and I'm guessing it will need to be replaced.

Anyone ever had a puncture similar to this?

Very tough to patch a hole that close to the sidewall. I've had this same issue on my 992, needed to replace the tire. btw, is it losing air, doesn't look like its into the tire, but only along the sidewall?

like everything else that is impacted by the supply chain insanity many tires, especially ones for taycans are sometimes hard to source. if you find the tires that you can get immediately, order them!

You may be able to find a used tire on eBay with about the same tread life as your good front tire. I have purchased used tires on eBay to match other tires on my MB and have never been disappointed. I just checked for your tire and size on eBay and there are a few available.

If you do decide to purchase two new tires it should be relatively easy to sell the one good tire you have to recover some of the cost.

It looks more like a staple than a nail. Roughly 3 inches long, as thin as a finishing nail, and perhaps something off of a wooden pallet?

I couldn't help myself this morning, the curiosity was killing me, so I grabbed a pair of pliers and pulled it out. There was almost no resistance when I pulled it out. Here is what it looks like:

It was literally just under the surface of the rubber, subdermal if you will. I put soapy water on the spot and there was no air escaping. Later this morning I'm going to take it for a cautious drive down the street and back that I hope I don't regret. I want to see if the tire loses any pressure. If so then the Taycan will sit until I can source a new tire (probably two new rear tires) and have it replaced.

Reading through this post trying to see if anyone had suggested just pulling it out but then curiosity got the better of you ?. It’s far too close to the surface of the tyre to worry about, there is no way air is going to be at this point. There is a layer of rubber on the inside then the steel wire then a layer of rubber and then the final tread. This is no worse than a stone taking a chunk of tread off, all good ?

I put about 50 miles on the car yesterday with no discernible leakage from the tire and no drop in tire pressure per the TPM sensors. I'm cautiously optimistic that, as you suggest, it didn't penetrate the tire to a point that it would require a replacement.

Time will tell! ??
