Is it correct that the MyPorsche app shows only EA charging stations? The PCM in the car shows all available charging stations from other networks (e.g. charge point, EVGO), but none of those show on the app? All filters on the app have been reset (e.g., “show plug and charge” is unselected, and the charging speed slider is set to “all”). I am confused why the app wouldn’t reflect all chargers that are shown on the in-car PCM.

tldr; Porsche connect app only shows charging locations supported by the official "Porsche Charging Service" - in case of North America that's EA…

the locations shown the app are locations where:
  • plug&charge should/could work
  • the app can be used to start your "included/free" 30 min charging sessions
  • the app does not show unsupported charging locations because it could be confusing to show them "in app" only to have to use another app to initiate a charging session.
read on…

one reason is that the Porsche app is how you start an EA "free/included" session if plug&charge is not working/configured…the Porsche app can not start/stop sessions at other networks so that may be one reason they are not shown in the app - Porsche's inclulded 3 years of charging only works with EA so the app only shows the "supported" network.

for navigation purposes they show "all" chargers because it has nothing to do with session activation.
  • the app shows you sites/locations where the app is "useful/necessary" - supported by the "Porsche Charging Service"
  • the navigation shows sites/locations you can drive to but has no awareness of activation requirements.
you would be equally frustrated if you used the app to navigate to an EVGo location and then could not use the Porsche app to start your charging session - and then your post would be titled…

"Why does the Porsche app show charging locations where I can't use it to start a charging session like I can with EA sites?"

also plug&charge is only supported for EA - there is no plug&charge support for non-EA networks in Porsche's implementation of plug&charge billing - so the app only shows "supported" charging locations where either plug&charge would work _OR_ you can start a charging session via your "Porsche charging" porsche connect service…

they have chosen to only show "supported" charging network in the app - which is a subtle difference vs. "compatible" charging networks - the navigation shows all CCS sites - the app only shows the vendor that Porsche has a business arrangement with.

that's my guess.

you're welcome - but to be clear I do not "know" this is the reason, but it seems likely to me being a software developer - I wouldn't choose to show things "in app" that my app "can't work with"…

but I have no actual knowledge, but it seems reasonable speculation once I thought about it - it's what i would do if it were "my app".

I believe in europe the Porsche app only shows Ionity (again the vendor they have an agreement with) - I'd love to be corrected by anyone that knows - the example is for "example" purposes and not meant to be a statement of fact…but rather illuminate a pattern…only show the vendors in app that we have an agreement with.

The reason I wish the app did show all the stations is it would allow you plan a trip from the phone, rather than the PCM. My understanding is that if I select chargers from, say, PlugShare on my phone and send those addresses to the car’s nav, the car won’t automatically recognize them as charging stations (and thus won’t precondition). Is there anyway to pre-plan a trip with charging stations without using the PCM?

A Better Route Planner (ABRP) - should be in every EV owner's app tool kit. Great planning tool.

Ionity is joint venture of the car-manuafactories BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Audi en Porsche (Volkswagen Group). So I think it is not strange that they as owner are showing this. You as owner of a the car from these carsbrands get a very good kWh-price and other advantages (like extra fast loading at 350kWh) at these stations. Comparable with Tesla owners at the Tesla stations...

In Europe you can see all the charging station in the app, where Porsche have an agreement to use the Porsche Charging Card and in some instances the app to initiate a charge. At least in theory! See screenshot.

Where you see 350 kW that is Ionity. The 150 kW stations are from a variety of other networks that should work with the card. But in cases like She’ll in the U.K. that does not work even if the both the car and the app shows that it should. So a bit careful checks are needed before heading to those chargers.
In the app you can also set it to ONLY show Ionity stations as a filter. Very useful on a long road trip so that the fees are lowest and the chargers are working.

And Ionity stations on a recent road trip have performed absolutely flawless! Even with all charging points in operation, I still received more than 260 kW!!
