They should have focussed on fixing the essential things first, such as stopping the car constantly going into privacy mode when I haven't asked it to!
My car has never done that, so I prefer the widget myself.

If my car is plugged in and at it's at its target charge, I've noticed that the EVSE fires up when i check the car using the app. I guess it wakes the car up and it starts drawing power. So, if i have a widget up and running, will it keep the car awake (or drowsy) and drawing power?
I noticed that too, but it just briefly enables the EVSE when waking up sometimes (not all the time). Sadly Taycans don't use "shore power" to save battery wear. For example, if I turn on climate control via the app while the car is plugged in, it will not draw that power from the EVSE like other EV's do to conserve battery cycling and not pre-drain the battery before you go, but instead Taycan just drains its own battery to pre-condition the car. :(

Not sure I see the benefit of adding AC controls to CarPlay in the taycan. CarPlay would = multiple clicks to get to the settings, versus the built in lower screen dedicated to AC functions. I’m sure I’m missing something.

Off hand, after having taken delivery of our R1S a couple months ago, I’ve become more impressed and satisfied with the features of the Taycan. Sure, Porsche doesn’t really do regular feature rich software updates, but they did get a lot correct out of the gate (or with the latest big update) whereas Rivian is playing catch up. It doesn’t help that expectations are different between these two cars.

FWIW, it seems to be the exact same thing on Android as well. I had added it about a week ago, but didn't realize that it was new.
I added it to my iPhone after seeing this chain. Love it!

  1. Control can now be accessed via Siri.
  2. Control can now be incorporated into an iOS script.

I guess I barely ever mess with my AC enough to care, but all for it if others want it!

While screen controls are nice, there are times I prefer using Siri to control things. For example "Report Speed Check" or "Report Hazard" while driving. In those instance I don't have to click several buttons on a screen that is below the front window while traveling at 75 mph or so.

I suspect I'll become very comfortable with some of the shortcuts - time will tell which. I know for sure that my granddaughters will go nuts for changing the interior light colors

I think it's a precursor to CarPlay v2 which will support multiple displays. Likely not in our existing Taycans, but for future Porsche model years. Besides the automations and Siri benefits that @ciaranob points out, imagine if all screens (instrument cluster / tubes, main PCM display, lower console display, passenger display) could each have separately configured CarPlay displays. Then it starts to make more sense. I think that this is groundwork for multi-display.

I don't think so. The widget only updates when you click into it else it has outdated information. Its ok but half functional.

I don’t think that’s correct.
Mine does not refresh when I unlock or lock my car. It only updates when I click on the widget. But my preconditioning works when I'm in the app. I did double check to see that the app is fetching data in real time. Is yours different.

Yes, right now mine says it updated 40 minutes ago, and I wasn‘t near the car for many hours, nor was it hooked to the charging cable during that time. (Nor did I use the app.)

Same. If not using the app – it appears to update approximately every six hours - i.e. four times a day.

In reality the mechanism that iOS uses is pretty complex and tries to learn from user behaviours – which may be why people are having different experiences.

My car is at the airport, the widget hasn’t updated for 16 hours and counting, that was the last time I looked at the app. I’m going to try and leave it alone and see if it does update.

No change in battery % since Saturday, only the range changes slightly up and down presumably because of ambient temperature.
