yes everyhone make sure to use conductive grease on your mobile EVSE…every time you plug and unplug it…:like:
Does it work on the cable itself, so it twists easier/with less friction? (Less friction -> less heat, too.)

To the OP and others facing this issue, how do you know the wall/receptacle isn’t what’s installed backwards? ?‍♂

When I got home today, I checked mine. I have both a 14-30 and a 14-50.

They both face towards the wall.

If @daveo4EV has older cables that are the other way around, then I can only conclude that Porsche is doing A/B testing to see if we prefer our plugs to face toward or away from the receptacles they plug into.

Good on them for putting in the effort to conduct this very important research.

I just took delivery of my MY25 4s and received the "backwards" version. I would have preferred the normal facing version.
I differ with your conclusion, I believe it's just it's part of Porsche's plan to make everything about the Taycan a little weird and then confuse us with the pure joy of driving.

I’ll start a poll….

Can I have opinions on what is best alternative charger, then? One that can handle 40A charging without overheating?

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/wall-charger-recommendation.20894/

most of the alternatives for a 40 amp (50 amp breaker) NEMA 14-50/6-50 EVSE are wall mounted (non-mobile)

virtually any/all North American EVSE's from most any vendor is better than the Porsche variants in terms of thermal behavior…

the wallmounted EVSEs list to consider includes at least the following:
  • ChargePoint Flex
  • Tesla Universal Wall Charger - hardwired only
    • other Tesla EVSE's w/Adapter
  • Porsche Wall Charger Connect - hardwired only
  • Enphase/Clippercreek
  • Wallbox
  • JuiceBox
  • Autel
  • Emphoria
  • Grizzly
  • others…
unless noted all of the above units offer NEMA 14-50/6-50 and hardwired options for installation - all of them are excellent EVSE's with strong reputations on this forum - each of them has a group of Taycan owners that are quite happy they have installed them…

NOTE: you also need to fix/replace your partially damaged NEMA 14-50 socket which has signs of thermal stress as noted by others and myself on this thread - probably from use with the previous power supply cable from Porsche - best practice according to Porsche and other EV vendors is for all EV owners to install a Hubble commercial grade industrial NEMA 14-50 socket - it's socket face is ceramic vs. plastic and can tolerate much much higher nominal operating temperatures vs. the $12 plastic NEMA 14-50 sockets most electricians install…

there are alternative mobile EVSE's but 40 amps is a harder gig and honestly the need for mobile EV chargers (EVSE) is rapidly diminishing given the continued rise of commerical public EV charging - it is a very very rare occurance that you're going ot need to plug into a bare NEMA socket when traveling away from home vs. just using someone else's (business, mall, hotel, etc) existing Ev charger fast/slow…

You'll use a TeslaTap (or equivalent) much much more often than your own NEMA EVSE - but if you _MUST_ have a mobile EVSE there are better (smaller, lighter, more reliable) alternatives to the Porsche unit - you can start with this thread if you want to cover your NEMA socket bases while traveling away from home…https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...and-useful-road-warrior-ev-charging-kit.6812/

how ever given how rare it is these days to just use a bare NEMA socket to charger your eV while away from home the included Porsche EVSE that you already own with the cable facing the wrong way is probalby just fine for the 6 times you'll use while away from home over the next 4+ years - so spending money on a mobile EVSE kit has a terrible ROI, unless you have a specific use case where you know you'll be using bare NEMA sockets all the time while traveling - it's hard to justify spending money in this space (other than the TeslaTap). YMMV

Anyone have a new charger cable from Porsche? The plug on mine points away from the wall, and they’re trying to tell me that it
IMG_8286.jpeg
is OK to twist a 220 V cord to make it fit. And they replaced it because they were worried about causing fires?
can you get the software version from your PMCC unit since you clearly have the new cord which requires a software update?

thanks.

No. They were unable to update my old one – not sure why – and so they ordered me a new one. But Porsche has put a hold on the new software so they can’t update the new one so that I can have it.

 Porsche's North American EVSE game remains strong and consistent…

Just got my new cable and it’s backwards as well. I swear you couldn’t make this shit up at this point. One thing after another.

I just bought a Taycan, when I went mount the included charger, found same issue as in this thread. Plug faces the wrong way. So, contacted sr Tech guy at dealer. He was completely unaware of that problem. Response got from tech team at Porsche: “just twist the cable”.

Dealer asked me to escalate thru customer service. ???!!!!
