No fan while fast DC charging (temp 49 C / 120 F)

Hi! Tonight during 500km/300miles trip I was charging at HPC (Ionity), charging speed was around 250kW and … it was completely silent. No fan on both side of Taycan. When temperature achieved 49 C / 120 F i stopped charging, set battery friendly DC charging option, checked both fans if they can rotate freely - they were not blocked. And started charging again. As before: no fan was rotating, completely silent. I can’t so silent remember charging. Temperature outside was -1 C / 30 F.
I was driving in freezing fog. Front of the car was covered with ice: sensors, lights, mirrors (like 2cm/1inch of ice on them). Has never experienced such weather btw. I suspected fan were blocked with ice too, but they could move.

Anyone experienced completely silent HPC charging?
Is blocked fan giving any error message?

Let me clarify. Your battery temp went to 49C / 120F and then the charging stopped: by the car or the charger, any error messages, turtle icon? I was in a close to 0C / 32F charging, preheated battery, clear weather, no ice buildup, and fans were going all out starting about your temp but kept going until battery temp reached 55C / 131F and turtle came on.

I would say temp sensor that triggers the fans frozen over or the fans may not able to turn with some ice buildup on them or around them, but I have not heard of anyone with seized fans having reported that the car would tell you that fans are seized. I do not think there is a sensor there.

The car seems to protect itself by stopping charging, but I would say it should give you an error or a turtle icon to let you know. Bottom line, not having fans turn at the 49C / 120F is not normal.

Battery was preconditioned, AFAIR 34 C / 93 F (I had low SoC, 4%, navigation was leading me to the charger but giving messages it cannot find charger around and pushing for manual setting the charger).
During charging battery temperature went up, at around 46-48 C and 50% SoC I stopped charging, checked vents, set battery safe more and started charging again. Up to 68%. Max temperature on the cockpit was 49 C - I saw higher values but ALWAYS had some noise coming from the fan. Getting very loud with battery temperature increase.
No error messages, turtles, issues.

As you mention, as soon as the temps heat the battery to the temp limits, fans should run, and yours do not. This means to me either the temp sensor that turns fans on is not working, or fans are seized and not able to rotate. I would definitely get it checked out and maybe there are error codes but not visible to the driver. I would like to see if anyone else replies to this thread who ran into the same issue in cold and icy conditions and how they resolved it.

I had scheduled service visit for today, fans were checked and work fine. btw my service advisor asked if my fans were replaced - which shows they are replaced to new type of item. There was a thermal error in registry but I could not get any feedback wether or not if it was connected with case I had yesterday.

Does your dealer have an L3 charger with good enough power 250kW+ so you can replicate it at the dealership. This is very easy to replicate as we know fans must be on around 120F but for sure at 130F+ with Battery Saving OFF. My fans go on when I charge at home on 11kW when ambient temperatures are high, but that is in the summer, no way for me replicate right now in the winter time.

My dealer has L3 charger but I was only able to get 60kW. I did not precondition the battery, I suspect the charger uses energy storage for more power - which was empty. No fan started, but I could hear some „hydraulic” noises on the right side of the car. Which I could not hear the day before.
Vents were checked, they are ok. There was an error code which … was deleted. I could not get details on what was it
