hi all. i am a new owner of a CPO 2021 Taycan 4S. i love it.

i am having trouble with the timer function. i have read every related thread in this forum (thanks @winge), and still have not solved my problem.

I have a wallbox pulsar plus plugged in, not hard wired. i do not have any schedules for the wallbox and am treating it as a "dumb" charger. the wallbox delivers about 7.6kW/hr.

i have an active timer, but have no active profile (in order to eliminate variables).

the issue I am experiencing is that the timer does not ever initiate the charger, rather it remains "on hold." this is true if I set the timer directly on the car or via the app. see screenshots attached of timer settings and charge detail. timer screenshot taken at 722 am.

i'd appreciate any help.

thank you!

Is the 'halo' on the wallbox yellow or green?

When are you watching for it to start? Based on your information and screen shots, I would expect it to start sometime after 5am for PB+ (later for PB). 62% to 85% at 7.6kw

i took the screenshot at 722 am. it was apparent at that point that the timer wasn't functioning properly.

that i didn't take note of, but will tomorrow.
Ok. Yellow means the wallbox is turned off, for what it's worth. Just something to rule out incase it's not the car!

thanks! I'm fairly confident it was blue or green, as I've never seen yellow on the charger.

To correct myself, yellow means locked, not off - but it won't allow you to charge. Wallbox App should tell you as well if it's locked.

Does it charge if you turn on direct charging?

If that works, I would try deleting and remaking the timer (even if you already have). I’m not sure there’s much else you can do after that. Maybe a trip to the dealer.

If it doesn’t work with direct charging, then maybe an issue with the onboard charger or EVSE.

Do you have another EVSE? Did one come with the car? Maybe try with that one too if possible.

Also try, if you have not already, rebooting the Wallbox by turning off circuit breaker that supplies it in electrical panel. Disconnect it from car while rebooting it.
Also, I assume you have not used Wallbox app to set or limit any charging times for the Wallbox, etc.?
Edit: best practice is to let Taycan handle timing, not use EVSE to do charge timing. You don't want EVSE timer to fight Taycan timer.

yes, direct charging works. I have deleted the timer, uninstall/reinstalled the Porsche app, reset the wallbox (by depowering).

i returned an emporia evse bc it neither worked with the Porsche timer, nor did it's own schedule feature work.

the timer works when using my Porsche mobile connect charger, but that delivers only 3.2kW/h bc of the update.

the wallbox schedule feature works (I've tried this after disabling the Porsche timer), but I can't limit it to 85%. interestingly enough, with Porsche timer off and using the wallbox schedule feature, the car initializes, then goes into "charging error" mode until the wallbox start time, at which point the car starts charging.

ugh.

thanks for your help!

I think I know what is happening as I ran into a similar confusion.

1. First thing to verify that your EVSE is providing charge to the car. This is typically done through the EVSE app, I have Emporia and it works perfectly. The app has to say that the EVSE is providing charge but waiting for the car, meaning that when you turn EVSE on, the cable is _NOT_ plugged to the car.

2. Second, verify that the car can accept charge form the EVSE by using Direct Charging option first as a test, so enable that, and then plug the cable into the car. Then if it is accepting charge, and you say it does then you verified that when EVSE is on then the car can accept charge.

3. Three, you need to understand that when Timer is _ON_ and set for the future as you note, this does not mean that the car will start charging right away, and blue ON HOLD behavior is expected as it will only charge in sprints over the period of time from when you plug in and when you need to reach the level set in the Timer. Therefore, when I have my timer similar to yours setup, and I turn EVSE on, then plug in, the car goes Green accepting charge for a short period of time and then goes Blue ON HOLD, as expected.

4. Every morning my car is what I set timer to be which is 85% with no issue following the protocol above.

hey sergey! thanks for your insight, i think it helped. i did a variation of your approach.

1. with the evse ready and no timer turned on, i plugged the car into the evse. direct charging started.

2. at that point, i turned the timer on. the car re-initialized and started the timer cycle (bc i had set the departure time a few hours from the time of this experiment. i immediately received a message from the porsche app stating that the car was unable to reach the target charge (85%) by the stated departure time (which i anticipated given the parameters of the trial, but also allowing me to confirm that the trial worked!).

so, my take away is that i cannot plug the car in while the timer is set to "on" but rather must turn the timer "on" after i plug in.

will try that approach tonight and see if this proves to be a workable approach.
