I’m in the process of buying my second taycan but not sure which warranty to take. The car is from an independent and the Porsche warranty has expired so I’d need to pay the £400 inspection then the £1200 a year for the warranty should it pass the inspection. An independent warranty quote (no inspection required) is here for comparison.
There’s a 90 day period I’d have to wait once the car is purchased before I could even start the OPC warranty process but as the car is being bought from a dealer selling it on behalf of his friend on a sale or return basis I could ask the owner to get the 111 point inspection done and take out the warranty at my cost then transfer it to me immediately.
What would you do ?

I'd get the cheaper Porsche warranty via the seller getting the 111 point check, if they refuse to get the check I'd find a car with Porsche warranty. £10k limit for a Taycan seems low especially relating to the battery. You are right to get a warranty, I've owned 2x Taycans over 5 years, both from new, and averaging a warranty claim every 6 months.....

The battery warranty is separate from the “normal” warranty and stays with the car regardless of owners. Also I’d be paying for the inspection myself

Had both with 911s previously and had good experiences with both.

if you’ve done your due diligence (I’m sure you have) on the 3rd party warranty’s reputation, claim levels, excesses, labour rates, parts coverage and premium and they come out even, you’re really down to convenience and comfort factor (or prestige perhaps) of the Porsche branded policy.

The 3rd party policy would need to be significantly cheaper to get the nod for me. Had my Taycan just over a year on a Porsche warranty (bought after owning it 3 months). Two warranty claims, one of them took some persuasion (tailgate touching pano roof when opening/closing). Ease of use of the Porsche warranty wins.

I’d go for the Porsche warranty without hesitation. I’ve had over £20k worth of claims in three years and the dealership has never queried anything. My cooling fans got blocked apparently and that was £3k to unblock them with just labour as no parts were needed. Will your 3rd party option cover that as nothing was actually broken?

Porsche warranty as if your car goes in you get a nice enough hire car for at least a day :)

Well here’s the new issue. I’ve paid a deposit but the dealer won’t book it in for an inspection at OPC until the vehicles paid in full. It’s a business to business transaction so he now doesn’t have to give me my deposit back if I pull out so I’m screwed

What happens if it fails the 111 point check? Are they going to agree to get it through that and remedy any issues? If not, you are in a real mess - seems like a dodgy second hand dealer to me.

Im guessing not. I do have a business friend who runs a reputable warranty company. I’ve sounded him out and he’s said they do a proper independent warranty that’s actually worth the paper it written on so I have that option I guess
