Is dust residue an issue with indoor/outdoor cover if I have PPF and ceramic ? I park in a garage but sometime I travel for 2-4 weeks. The garage manager said it’s better to keep a car cover as there is water leakage sometimes and it’s always dusty. I never used a car cover because generally if the car is r clean, the covers rub in the dust. Is it the same case if I have PPF on the car.

Thanks

I have PPF & Porsche Taycan outdoor cover. It protects it very well against the elements & have found no issues in 19 months of ownership.
Thanks.

Even a ceramic coating can be scratched from the dry rub of a car cover. The scratches would be minor and fixable though. The more you put on and take off a car cover from anything but a freshly cleaned car, the more the dust and dirt builds up on the inside of the cover….thus increasing the risk as you go. Practicality speaking, you’d be better off with no cover and doing regular cleaning.

I wouldnt worry about the cover rubbing because it's usually wind the causes the most problems. In a NYC garage, the only wind there is when the guy had a bad burrito.

so I put a cover on it. But will only do so after the car is cleaned and i’m out for weeks. because it’s common for garage ceilings to leak in NYC :( The calcium probably stained in Dec and the fix seems a bit costly. also because after they clean it / they will have to ceramic coat that area again. The car is in a fixed spot and won’t be moved, when it has a cover. Also hopefully garage staff won’t try to mess with it by cleaning with the wrong cloth (they left a lot of scratch marks).

I think, even if there are marks from dust due to the cover - they might be easier to tackle on PPF than calcium / oil deposits. But happy to hear comments
