I’ve had my 22 RWD for 6 months now and LOVE IT…..BUT a significant downside is that I feel continuously and perhaps excessively overly cautious with it. Case in point I went to the supermarket today (parking far/isolated as always) in a good northern Cal neighborhood. I received a work phone call while parking and spoke for about 35 minutes in the car. Several individuals walking by checked my car out as per usual but at least 2 individuals gave me less than pleasant looks. My concern was enough that I left and later returned to the supermarket in my wife’s car. Do I need to just relax or is this degree of caution normal/appropriate? I feel like cougar in top gun 1. I’m holding on too tight.

I routinely park my car in tight spaces between pickup trucks at the store. Never had a problem. I think you're gonna be okay.

And if you're getting dirty looks, could be the guy's just thinking 'damn, why didn't he spec the Mission E wheels...'

I wouldn't worry about it. In NorCal, this is far from the most expensive car people will see.

You were scared to park your Taycan at the grocery store? Why? I mean, genuinely, why?

It's a big purchase so I get not wanting anything to happen to it but uh.. no one cares about a Taycan. Most people looking are doing so specifically because they know what it is and think it's cool. It's not loud and it isn't overly eyecatching to someone that doesn't know what it is (a Porsche sedan, yawn).

I know people on here love the Taycan, I do too!, but for the casual passerby it's not all that special. People see Macans and Cayennes all the time, the Porsche vibe isn't really all that exclusive or special anymore.

Most of us probably park further away than necessary, that part is fairly normal, but I do that in any car cuz parking lots suck. No one is going to steal or key your Taycan, though.

I live in Kentucky. Coal is king. Pick-up trucks rolling coal.
Never felt a problem with haters though. I am mindful of parking, but not to where is has an effect on my peace of mind.
It's a car. A nice car, but still a car and you have to live your life

Sell it. Anything that leads to enough anxiety that it makes you question what you are doing is simply not worth it.

Or chill. So what if it is damaged? It can be repaired. You have insurance. It's not collectible. You could get another. It is just a thing.

If you are going to freak out when/if ppl look at you funny then you had better not leave the comfort of your NoCal neighborhood. Those ppl may have been suffering from indigestion.

I’m sorry but you’re like the last person to get a Taycan in NorCal. Many have already owned and sold theirs by now. No one cares, your fear is in your head.

I'm sorry, but if lived somewhere where I felt unwelcome and/or unsafe in my car, I would be looking for a friendlier place to move to. But maybe it's just me. I said a similar thing to my friends when they told me how impressive the Tesla Cybertruck will be because it will have bulletproof windows. I told them that if I ever lived somewhere where I felt I need a bulletproof car, it's time to move, asap.

The only time I hide our Teslas and park kids' cars in the driveway is when I need to get quotes on jobs around the house, or sometimes when going to buy something which requires some negotiation. Apparently some landscapers think I need special pricy grass to handle the lack of exhaust from my cars. ;) Similar to how installation of NEMA 14-50 for a welder in a garage is less than a quarter the price of NEMA 14-50 for an EV charger, especially Tesla or Porsche. I self install for myself (still have to pay the government to inspect  ), but have had friends tell me the install prices around here. Having a ton of Teslas around, most electricians smile then you tell them it's for a welder, then ask to see the welder in the garage (while looking for the car too). :CWL:

I hear the general sentiment of the thread loud and clear. Relax and it’s in my head. I didn’t grow up wealthy, I’ve been very fortunate in my adult life, and this lifestyle is an adjustment for me. I do sincerely appreciate the feedback.

Good advice from everyone on this. Those less than appealing looks you got were because you were parking away from everyone because you thought your car was so special (and it is!). It did not matter that the car was a Porsche. Heck, it could have even been a lowly Tesla! That said, keep parking away from everyone in the lot. Doesn't matter what kind of car you are driving, door dings suck.

Also Brian, I get weird looks sometimes too, but I chalk all those up to people thinking "WTF? Is that a Porsche station wagon?!".
